City View Quilting

I bought the Connecting Threads quilt kit called City View using beautiful leafy Batik fabrics.  It went together in an impressive 4 hours max.City View Pattern Has anyone else made this and quilted it?  My first thoughts were to straight line quilt it, making kind of a grid of the windows.  That seems to clash with the leafy batik.  Yet I don't want busy quilting to obstruct the fabric design.

Has anyone had experiences they would, or wouldn't repeat quilting up this pattern?…

Sweet Land of Liberty

That is the theme for my quilt guild's annual quilt show this year.  We will also be incorporating a Quilts of Valor presentation in with the festivities.  So the show chairman asked us to make miniature quilts depicting that theme and here is my entry.  It is 13" x 15". …

Thank you!

Words can't express enough thanks I have for each of you with your love and support over the years as I cared for my mom, and through her homecoming.  The service on Friday was great. My BFF came and officiated. She knew Mom, so that made it extra special to me. I'm intentionally changing my weekly routine, not going to town on the days I have been to help adjust to a new normal.  I think about and miss Mom greatly but am so happy she is healthy and whole and in her eternal home.  I would…

July's ending??

What a summer! I'm often surprised when I check my calendar. Evidently I have no sense of time but this year has been exceptional. I feel like I lost February and March. Then April grabbed May and they scooted off together. I guess June and July thought that looked like fun and ran after them. Holy smoke!

Now,  I should be here for a couple of weeks. The garden is filled with weeds. I have done final changes (I'd do more if I was allowed) on new book. Book 7 in the series. How did…

Quilting on hold...too hot!

Quilting put into hiatus for now, too hot in my sewing room.  I do have an air conditioner in there and can turn it on, but...if I decide to cut fabrics, I have to turn on the bright light so I can see what I'm cutting, then I have to turn on the 1700-watt iron so I can press the pieces, then turn on the Janome Horizon to start sewing, along with my Nook to listen to music.  I then have everything running and voila! a short-circuit on the entire half of the…

Pastel Roman Stripes baby quilt

I just finished this baby quilt for a great-niece born June 27th.  I loved the polka dot fabric.  Apparently I was feeling extravagant at the time and bought a whole half yard of it.  Since I was already blowing my wad, I picked out FQs to match.  Yes, the quilt shop owner was…

High Fiber—Three Years Before the Mast

Ah, the call of the sea!

We should be ending up our visit in Finland and getting ready to return home right about now. Internet is unpredictable on our travels, so instead of my usual fiber fun I've written this blog post ahead of time about the three years we…

Gone Home

Just two weeks ago Mom got to spend the day celebrating her sister's 100th birthday. Yesterday morning she had another celebration ... she got to go to her eternal home! I'll greatly miss her. She's been a huge part of my life these past 7 years especially as caregiver to her. Thank you for your prayers and support -- you have all helped me and encouraged me over the years. …

Moving day on the 25th

Things are looking up a bit.  I set the moving date for this weekend but we are suppose to get heavy rains, so have pushed it to next weekend.  I bought a new table and chairs, and have taken a lot of things over and got them in their places. I made and hung my sewing room curtains.  My sewing cabinets are almost done and will be delivered soon.  It's beginning to look like home.  Bud and I got a laugh this week.  We went out and got a couple of lobster rolls and decided to eat our first…

The Summer from.....

I would give anything to be able to spend a day in the sewing room. We started putting in a new septic system three weeks ago at the lake house. Now, there are many rules when you live by water. We hired an engineer and went through the process with the town board. Everything was on schedule until the health inspector showed up and he realized our contractor had fired him several years ago. They have nit picked this project until I'm about to scream. We even had to redo our gutters to the…

Week One

What fun.  I almost finished one star today.  Maybe I can post a photo tomorrow.  Tonight fingers are sore.  How many can I make in a week?  Can't wait for next week already.
