We left NY on Wednesday am. Gary was feeling funky, but insisted on leaving because that storm was moving in the next day. He rallied until just north of DC. Then, chills and fever hit. I took over the driving...after 45 years the ole boy had to turn it over to me. I don't think he thought I'd make good time. We drove 10 hours and got down into NC. His temp broke during the night and we made it to Daytona beach. We always start the winter trip there. Same hotel room with the doors open to…Continue
Sitting here resting up from doing alterations all day. With the wind blowing the snow we got yesterday around I haven't ventured out in this 9 degree weather except to move my car for the plow. My next projects are to make myself a kitchen curtain ( I have the valance done) and another mixer cover for a client. And then get back to quilting until more work comes in. My goal is to make four of my grandchildren a quilt (the other three got theirs last year) and one for both my son's. Two are…Continue
A few days ago I received an e-mail from a company called Kimberbelle that had a link to a cute freebie that could be either machine embroidered or hand embroidered. I couldn't resist and had it made within a couple of days. There are also buttons on it that were specifically made to go with this design. Fortunately one of the stores in Columbia MO sells a lot of their stuff so they not only had the buttons, they carry the cute little hangers. This is approx. 5-1/2" x 9-1/2".…Continue
This week I'm showing off a lot of things that got raked in over the last couple of weeks. First Christmas:…
I am in super need of some more of this yellow fabric. Unfortantely I do not know who the designer is or what the name of the fabric is. I only need a 1/4 a yard. Any help would be appreciated it. It is a yellow batik
As soon as I saw this pattern in Judy Martin's book "Log Cabin Quilt Book", I knew I was going to have to make one. My original idea was to make it king size. Didn't take long before reality set in. The smallest piece is 3/4" before being sewn in to the top! One of these days I might get up enough nerve to count how many pieces are in this wallhanging, but I know it is a lot!…Continue
I hope everyone has been having a great holiday season.
On Christmas Eve day all of our bank accounts were frozen. Somebody tried to drain all accounts. We had gotten an email asking if we made a charge of 44.31 in Miami. I've had credit cards hacked before, but never a debit card. We absolutely never use it other than to use the ATM at our bank. So, this is how good they are getting...the bank manager read everything on my phone...looked at her computer and said...I don't think you've actually been compromised until she saw a phone number that…Continue
I want to wish everyone on QWU a very Merry Christmas & a happy & prosperous 2020! We had lots of snow last week & cold temps. This week it is in the 60's & the snow has all melted so no white Christmas for us again this year. My daughter, her 2 boys & her boyfriend are coming over tomorrow for dinner & opening gifts. I'm hoping to spend Christmas in Las Vegas next year with my son & his family. Time will tell if that will happen.
Well in my part of Canada it looks like we are going to have a green Christmas. Finished all the baking this morning, DH wrapped the parcels so I think we are ready.
Thought I would show you a few things that I have been working on. I had a order for 14 cards, the lady bought two at the Christmas show then email me to place a order for 14 more. I quilted two lap quilts to send to the nursing home for people with no family or don't get visitors.…Continue
Every winter, I plan a Jimmy Buffet evening...the snow is blowing, wind is howling, and it's freezing cold! Today is the day. Making potato salad, devil eggs, baked beans, hamburgs, and hot dogs! Beer is being iced... Buffet music blaring... Turn the furnace up and pretend we are at the lake house! It also breaks the tension of the holidays...the fun part is our family and friends love this, but never know when it's going to happen. All I do is send a buffet song to their phones and they…Continue
My gift to family and friends are bulky scarfs. Every time I wear mine, someone asks where I got it. On a cold windy day, they sure keep you warm. Hope everyone is winding down...two weeks and counting!!! Santa"s helpers are busy!
I made this quilt for my sister more than 20 years ago. She mostly used it to hang off her loft railing. She has decided to retire in Costa Rica, so hard decisions on what to take. Quilts are not essential. She sent it back with a note saying...thanks for the loan, but we know this belongs in your home! …Continue
