I will be visiting Los Angeles this weekend and would like to know of any quilt shops worth visiting. Please let me know if you know of one and the address.

Tomorrow morning I leave for a "real" vacation. No DH, no kids, just me and my two sisters; one older by 18 months, and one younger by about 12 months (my mother was insane). My older sister has a vacation condo in the Smokey Mountains in South Carolina, near the Georgia and North Carolina border. We should be well inland from Earl.
We've been planning this for months, and the plan is just to be together and hang out. Drink some good wine, play some golf, go boating, hang out… Continue

I need some help to make a decission on where to go next week for our aniversary vacation. We had planned on Hawaii but I didn't get my poop together and book the island cruise and they are now sold out (last year at this time there were lots of trips to book). So that idea is out the window. DH wants to do Cuba (Varadaro) but with storms not sure if it is okay this time of year and he seems to think the cabo side of mexico is okay. We have already been to both Cabo and Puerto Vallarta so he… Continue

Well good evening or morning, depending on when you read this. This is the first time I think I can honestly say that I lost myself in my quilt. I was up early again today on my day off and after having my coffee break and a chat with the other half who is still out on the road, I started to work on my nieces quilt for her daughter. I have had all the patchwork blocks finished and the alternating block I repeated a portion of the patchwork design and stitched that into the plain blocks. I had… Continue

I have just finished my twin size Disappearing 9 Patch "summer quilt"... one that has no batting in it to make it very light, just right for a wee covering in summer. I had played with the layout, then looked on this site for all yours, but ended up with the traditional DNP. It will be on my site shortly.
I quilted it by machine very sparingly in the blue, but the stitching seemed to pull up just a bit, so I won't continue in the yellow windmills. Besides, I don't want to add more weight.… Continue

I received this back in 1998 when I was a AOL member,, but it still fits!! I do not know who the author is.
A woman who was near death, insisted that she be buried with her fabric stash. While her children thought the request was a bit foolish, they complied and the lady's coffin was filled with her favorite fabrics.
After she passed away, she found herself in a mystical place, and was surrounded by other women. Each was at a sewing table admiring bolts of beautiful… Continue

I sent instuctions to my sister-in-law's mother and aunt so they could make Beads of Courage Bags for the Syracuse Children's Hosp., and boy did they! Great job Jalayne and Carol!
The fabrics are much brighter in "real life"!

Hi folks, I hope you are all doing well! I have been super busy this summer, seems to be pretty much the norm around here anymore! I have been working on my sister in law's quilt and am now two thirds of the way done. Yahoo! I'm sure you have worked on several that you will be glad to see the end of. I like it a lot, heck I like them all but I am ready for a new project. I have not yet reached the point that I can work on more than one quilti at a time. I mean the actual quilting part, I do… Continue

When one of my quilting buddies (Lorie) said lets visit some different shops, off we went in the hunt for materials. You know when they start to talk Hurricanes in FL we have to stock up on water, batteries, snacks and of course quilting materials.
We headed south to Orange Park and visited Country Crossroads, now that was a interesting shop, all kinds of materials you can think of and I discovered the material I had run out of for a church project.… Continue

Well, here she is, don't have a name for her yet, but the newest addition to my "collection" which consists of Pfaff 7570, Viking #1 Plus, Sears Kenmore circa 1970, Singer full size, circa 1950s. I am open to suggestions for names, although none of my other machines have a name, but this one seems to be screaming for one...so my friends, suggestions welcome. I still can't believe I have her!…

Or maybe I shoud say Quilt monkey???? I finally decided to put my Double heart bargello in the local fair and spent almost an hour hunched over it picking off little pieces of thread from all the seams. I "thought" I had cleaned it for the machine quilter, but with all the unsewing and resewing of the top, there were all these little bitty bits of thread poking out. I folded it accordian style on the dining room table to work on each section. I felt like a momma gorilla cleaning her… Continue

Hey! It seems like a very long time ago that I blogged. Sorry, I have been packing for the big move across the street. I used to be able to get a house packed in about a week. Not anymore! This time, it seems to be taking me forever! So, bear with me on the book. I am on a deadline here and really have to keep at it...
While sorting and tossing, I found some interesting things:
1) Of course, we all have clothes that we will get into "someday" again. Believe this… Continue

Sad isn't it. Yes it's late August but a frost warning? Canadian summers are too short.
I have been clearing out my UFO piles and LOVING it. I have a lap quilt for my girls finished
and a denim/flannel picnic blanket to snip and wash, progress is wonderful. There are many new and exciting projects rolling around in my head and I am headed to the quilt store tomorrow for some backing. I hope to have more to say about that later. For now… Continue

I have an antique SInger machine in a cabinet, seems to run good. But last night when I was trying it out, sometimes it skips stitches - the top looks good, but the bobbin doesn't catch for about 3-5 stitches. Does anyone know what might be happening and how to fix it? Thanks.
Oh, stroke update on DB. Dr. seems to think DB will make a full recovery and they were able to get him into see the speech therapist. Turns out that I was correct in getting a notebook for him to… Continue

It's finally happening--my DWR is finally coming together. It's the quilt I dreamed of making when I first started quilting over ten years ago, and this past winter I finally felt ready to start it. I've worked on it slowly but steadily--very slowly, since i started cutting it out way back in January and finally finished piecing the melons earlier this month. It's queen-size, so I'm making it in four sections to make it easier to maneuver and will combine those four into one top. Well, the… Continue
