Farmer's Wife Book Received!!

Still have not done any sewing.

Mid-June my older daughter was admitted to the hospital with an initial diagnosis of MS.  She was not responsive to the treatment so was transfered to a teaching hospital in Portland,  She has continued to decline and they have not been able to determine the cause.  So now she has been moved to a long-term acute care facility.  She is mostly unresponsive.  My other daughter and i are going over this weekend to see her - it is about 200 miles west of…

Busy day for me.

Hi Everyone. I have been working in my bedroom all day. I started ripping the paper off the other day but didn't get much done when company came in. So today I went back at it. I decided to move the furniture from each wall at a time. Rip the paper off, tear up the rug in that area and then paint. Put the furniture back and move to the next wall. Nothing is ever as simple as you might think.  Many years ago I had to have a closet built in my room. The house is over a hundred years old. I guess… Continue

It's Been Awhile....

I've been lurking, though, but it has been some time since I've posted here.  Still alive and well, busier than I should be! My younger daughter is still waiting for her divorce to go through, my older daughter and her family are dealing with the aftereffects of long-term low-level carbon monoxide poisoning this past winter, my mother has been in and out of the hospital, my sister-in-law is on on life support....well, you get the idea! I have started a long-arm business and it has been going…

I Should Have Bought the Oreos

That's all---just should have bought the Oreos.  Well, actually, I should then have holed up in my quilting room with the Oreos, milk, and sewing machine.

One Thread Leads To Another...

*For those looking for a great gift idea, see my "Quilter's Candy" recipe in my blog here yesterday. It will also be available on my site under today's blog, then later under Best Of The Blogs at rkmquilts.com.

Well, I am off in a couple of hours for a day of quilting! I have joined a couple of local daytime groups of ladies that are just delightful! I am not sure what project I am going to work on, so I will have to think a little bit about that. Whatever I plan to do, I am sure I… Continue

I'm wanting to get some ideas on good muslin to purchase that also lends itself to hand quilting.  A friend has asked me to assemble a quilt top using some butterfly blocks her aunt made probably in the 1940's.  These are all attached to a muslin base with various embroidery stitches.  I want to also surprise her & hand quilt the top before I give it back to her so any suggestions as to the brand of muslin you prefer would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.  Janet

It's been a very long long time!

My goodness!  When I logged on to check an email from a friend I realized that it has been ages since I have posted to my page!! I had no idea!  I try to read all of the posts made to my groups but I don't always take the time to comment. I need to change that!

This past year has simply flown by but I can account for my absence.

I have been busy designing and making samples and publishing and selling patterns.

I have done a bit of traveling to see the sights and to…

Fall - it's almost here

Just returned from 3 weeks in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho. Had a great time and really felt inspired to sew and paint. I signed up for an art quilt class in Monterrey in the spring of 2012.  I'm looking forward to that.  I feel that fall in right around the corner in the SW so I'm getting ready for some pumpkin theme decorating of my house and yard.  I'd love to see pictures of how you decorate for fall . So if you can post some it would be appreciated. Have a great Labor day.

A question for the ages...When is enough material "ENOUGH"?

I am looking to hear from lots of u gals & guys. I have more material than I will probably ever use in my lifetime (yeah, I know what quilter can't say this) or I will look @ some of it in a few years & think "dang this is ugly, what was I thinking when I brought this?!?" Now back to my original question...I have found some BEAUTIFUL BATIK fabrics (of which I actually own very little~I think this might be considered rationalizing) for an amazing price! Regularly priced about $10.99 to… Continue

Exciting news from Granddaughter

We are going to be blessed with Twins.  She is only the second one in our family to have twins.  My mother was first.  At least my granddaughter is a better mother than my mother.  (that is another story)  Hoping to find out soon so I can start on baby quilts.

Nativity pin project for Gifty Galore Group

This project comes from the book Seasons & Reasons to Celebrate.

I collect nativities and thought the one in this book was adorable.  Then the idea to take Jesus in the manger and make a Christmas pin popped into my head!

Quilter's Candy Recipe!

Hello Friends!

I have an idea for Halloween that I'd like to share with all of you. Of course, you can change the colors around for any holiday. I did this once and it went over quite nicely. Yes, I know October is still a few weeks away yet but you need time to collect your items...

I posted a couple more pic.

I tried to add pictures to my blog but it didn't work out so I posted them on my page.

I actually made a purse for myself. At guild on Sat. we had a UFO day so I took my purse that I had cut out a few weeks ago out of fabric I got on the Spring Shop Hop. Then on Sunday a lady gave me a piece of fabric she no longer wanted. I squared it up and put a rolled hem on it and I think it made a pretty table topper. Even though these projects were small and "no brainers" I enjoyed doing them. …

I'm back

Hi, all!

My Minnesota vacation was Wonderful!  Now I am looking for lakeshore property so I can spend part of my year there, each year!  I managed to be there in between two hot muggy spells - the weather was just about perfect!   And I was able to spend time with old friends - two of whom I had not seen for over 20 years - so that was also fun.  One artist friend taught me how to throw pots on a pottery wheel (I bought a wheel and kiln a year ago but have not tried them…

Use It Up..../

The saying I heard as a young mom came to mind today.  I would imagine most of  you have heard it--and I'm pretty sure you have lived it:

                                  Use it up.

                                  Wear it out.

                                  Make it do.

                                  Do without.

So, I was thinking about how quilters do that.  We may or may not be recycling clothes into quilts the way our…

Any Opinions on AccuQuilt Die Cutting System?

All of a sudden, I think the AccuQuilt is the next "must have" quilting tool for me.  But is it?  I'm always on a quest to achieve ever-more-perfect triangle piecing.  I think having the dogears pre-cut off with complete precision would be such a timesaver.  At first, I thought the cost of the dies was prohibitive, but they could be combined to make any number of blocks.  Does anyone here own an AccuQuilt, and do you think it's worth the investment?
