I know I live in Southeastern Idaho, but the weather changed last night. And I do mean changed. It snowed, rained, blowed, snowed, slushed, rained. Yes, I know the term "blowed" isn't proper grammar in this case, but it rhymed. It has finally calmed down outside. I even used an umbrella today. The Indian Summer weather isn't forecasted to return any time soon. Hope I can tolerate this winter. Maybe that just means I need to get my studio in order and lock myself in!?! Yes, that sounds like a… Continue

Day 3: We were up with the chickens or should I say cows this morning as the winds and rain kept us up most of the night. The lovely sound of pitter-patter on the roof only goes so far. Thankfully the horrible wind was to our back today so maybe our gas miles will improve. I did a spreadsheet in the computer to keep tract of that sorta thing. Have to keep the driver happy.
We traveled south on hwy 84 from Idaho to Utah. We were absolutely shocked when we came around a corner and saw snow.… Continue

Have you had those times in your life when you put something up and then you couldn't find it to save your soul. Well I am having those moments in life. (Too much on my mind I think). I have lost the charger to my cell phone, two of my BOM kits and several other things. So while I was using my embroidery machine (did a bear that took 60 minutes), I started clean my sewing space. I have thrown away a trash bag full of junk. Yes I am a pack rat when it comes to my sewing supplies and fabrics. I… Continue

Wow! Septembers are always busy for our family (4 birthdays!), but this one was especially so! Last week we drove our daughter to college to start her freshman year....her school started later than the rest of the country. The weeks before that included dorm and clothing shopping. Also,… Continue

I have always had a love for fibers. The textures and the colors always intrigue me. I love picking out new fabrics for a quilt even though I have plenty af fabric at home. Nothing makes me feel quite so happy as finding the "perfect" filler.
I was born Christmas eve and am drawn to santas, snowmen and angels. But that is not what a lot of my quilting is with. Living in the southwest, I tend to lean toward horses and wildlife, and the beautiful colors of the mountains.
My first quilt… Continue

Thank you all for the warm wishes of a new year!!! I got the best gift that i could hope for from my Mom, Dad & Hubby!!! "She" - (still deciding on a "special name") -- is the Mega Quilter with the 2nd generation Grace Husquarvana 18x8 quilt frame that includes the Qbot.
That I don't have the first idea of how to use it -- well, I have a new year and tons of dreams that I can start working on. My mom has been making tops for a long time and they are still stacking up. I kept… Continue

Day 2: We left Oregon and just outside of the Idaho border was an Historical Marker for the “Van Orum Battle Site”. So I went onto my trusty iphone 3G network and googled it for our first history lesson of the day. We are traveling on or about the Oregon Trail and this… Continue

I just got home from my Tuesday night Children's Lit class. We had to do a powerpoint presentation last week on a picture book author. The teacher called me up to her desk tonight....oh no, because I had done something questionable in my presentation.....and she asked if she could use a copy of my powerpoint to show to her future classes as an excellent example. "Well, sure," I said. ("are you sure" I was saying to myself in my mind) I had NEVER done a powerpoint before and had to just buy the… Continue

The name of the block around the shirt is "The House that Jack Built". Since the Michigan stadium is called the Big House and Sarah's cat is named Jack...it seemed like a good fit. I have the cutting started on block 14...now all I need is some time to work on it. The afternoon started well with lunch and the quilt exhibit (where I have 2 quilts) with my in-laws....but I came home and had to deal with the insurance company and the mail order… Continue

Our heat wave is finally over. Today I woke up to a cool 58 degrees out instead of the usual 70 to 90 degree range. What that means for me is a pot of soup on the stove and more indoor time to sew. I've been working diligently on the EPP Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt that I started last February. I'm almost to the half-way mark, which means almost 900 hexagons have passed through my calloused fingers. With four great nieces/nephews on the way, I should set aside the EPP and get busy with… Continue

Hi folks, hope you are all doing well and have been busy quilting away! I finished my daughter-in-law's Frog quilt last night. I just uploaded the pic's! Now I am down to two themed quilts, my sister Jackie's Angel quilt and my brother Allen's Fishing quilt. THEN... I think I will make one for just for me! It has been a busy summer, at least I think we had summer, it went by so fast it was hard to tell. Anyway, I love this time of the year! Cool enough to quilt a LOT more!! Can I get an Amen!!… Continue

after having to rippit rippit several times :) I hope to be taking it to the guild's saturday sew in on Oct 10th to get it sandwiched so I can quilt and bind it back here at home. Again, thanks for all the help! I'd probably still be staring at the 'ugly' blocks on my design wall if it hadn't been for your suggestions. P.S. I just looked at the pic and noticed there are some 'bumps', but it's from the blanket underneath, not something in the quilt top that will need fixing. :)… Continue

Goodness--I lost another month. I am delighted to announce that I do not plan to be out of town at all in October. (Unless #1 son in Seattle buys a condo and needs mom to come paint) Otherwise, I wil sleep in my own bed, slump around without makeup in my rattiest quilting t-shirts and put the garden to bed. I'm so excited. I hate having to comb my hair every day and act like an adult.
I have just over three weeks before our local quilt retreat. I hope to get the applique done on,… Continue

I woke up late with my granddaughter today. As I have a doctor's appt at mid-morning, we took our time eating breakfast, even got to watch some PBS show. After dropping her off at the day care, I realized I stil have 45 minutes to kill, so I drove across town and went to the fabric store, 'Just to look', I told myself. However, there was a shelf of fabrics on sale at $1.00 a yard, and I found 2 bolts of flannel, so perfect for the baby quilts I have planned to make. $28.00 for the 2 bolts,… Continue

So I started the "Quilt in a Day" yesterday. Well if my quilt was 3 blocks I guess I would have it done. I almost finished 8 squares. After taking my son to school this morning I got up and finished the 5 squares I was working on. That means 28 to go. I am making this quilt for my brother and his wife. They are into neutrals so I thought I would make a brown quilt. I was not so motivated to do that but I have found some absolutely beautiful material and it is going together just so nicely. I… Continue
