Just want to say . . . .

I recently added pics of some of the quilts displayed at the NY State Fair this year. I just want to clarify that none of them were made by me. :0( I took pics bc I admired them and wanted to share them with you. I can't even tell you who did make them, as I don't have a winner's list. But I hope you enjoy them as I did.

The end of September

My calendar is laughing at me again. It says today is the end of September. I say no way. Not only am I running behind as usual but it's 80 degrees. We are having the longest, warmest fall ever. It's normal for us to have a hard, hard freeze or even a little snow in the middle of September. We had a slight frost a few weeks ago. I still have tomatoes ripening in the garden and green beans. Outrageous! Although lovely, it does keep me from doing my inside stuff.

I do think I…

Update on my hand after surgery

I saw my hand dr today & he said my hand is healing up very nicely. He did say it might take as long as 18 months before I regain all the strength in it though. I'm scheduled for knee replacement surgery on Oct 12th so he recommended I buy the gloves that bicylists wear with the gel inserts in the palms to wear when I have to get around w/my walker. I hope they are not too expensive.

Sashiko or free-motion quilting?

From some of my old stash I made blocks similar to a pattern I saw in a recent quilt magazine(Circle Around from BHG "Quilts and more, Summer2010"). Put the pieces together by hand, then did zigzag by machine over the seams, instead of doing raw-edge applique. Now I have 6-inch inner circles which I want to fill in. I have always wanted to try 'sashiko' and I even bought Sylvia Pippen's books to learn how to do it. However, I also want to… Continue

Mini Quilt Retreat

What do Roseburg, Oregon, Vicki Bellino, Rice Hill, adjoining rooms and 2 cars packed full of quilting supplies have in common?

They are all the components of a mini quilt retreat! Judy, Laraine and I live in Vancouver, WA. Our friend… Continue

Fun Christmas Card Holder

I just finished testing a new Christmas Card Holder quilt pattern for our own Royce Vaughn http://www.royce-acreativelife.blogspot.com. You can ask her how you can get your pattern. It's really fun. I used CT's Wrap it Up Christmas fabrics for mine (all but the white). I still need to add the round paper clips to hold the cards. It's a fast and fun… Continue

Private Quilt Retreat...

I don't know who looks forward to the next four days more, hubby or me. This is the "guy" weekend at the lake house. They "claim" that they are in the woods scouting for deer hunting and enjoying nature! Which I'm sure they are....but there is enough beer and wine in the store room to start up their own bar!!!! I would so love to hear some of the conversations...or maybe not! BUT, I have the next four days to sew and not have to stop to make dinner, etc. I have several projects, I can knock off… Continue

Busy day ahead

I hope many of you have taken advantage of my free reversible table runner pattern. It's on the toolbar of my site if you haven't yet. There are pictures of the completed project(s) and also a picture step-by-step in case you are new to sewing and quilting. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at Rhonda@rkmquilts.com. I have two bits of advice for you before you begin. 1) Press, do not iron your triangles because of the bias edges. 2) Although tempting, do not… Continue

Ct Projects

I recently completed a few projects that I purchased this summer from Connecting Threads. Two kits plus extra fabric allowed me to complete three runners. I am attaching the photos of the runners. They turned out well and work with the end of summer colors here in California. Our fall weather is hot but the country side is golden as the colors in the fabric.…

woo hoo It's almost done

Good evening to all, yesterday I got the stripes put on the WIP. After I started looking at it, it would make a great baby quilt/blanket. But sence I don't have any kids at home and I've already made the quilt for my niece I guess I'll be keeping this one. I have the outside blocks to finish up and sew on and it will be done. On my last blog someone asked what the name of the pattern was. I have no idea sense I haven't gotten as far as naming the pattern. So having confessed that I shoot…

Took Mom out to the Arboretum as it was such a lovely day. The trees are starting to turn colors, the Canadian Geese were sunning themselves, the squirrels were have great fun collecting items for their nests, and so much more. These two were having a great time together - they were definitely a couple.

Dyeing in 2010

I seem to have lost my place with this group over the last year. Life is pretty busy! I spent quite a bit of time dyeing fabric this summer. After Carol Taylor visited our guild in May and showed her gorgeous work in hand dyed cotton sateen, I had to try dyeing some of that. I did gradations of green, yellow, brown, and orange, using both sateen and pimatex fabrics. It was interesting to see the differences between fabrics dyed in the same baggie. Last week I did red and purple gradations and… Continue

looking for a quilt pattern

ok, this is a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping I hit a target :). Several years ago, in the back of a magazine (craft or quilting), I found a cute applique' quilted wall hanging of a beagle 'crooning' into a microphone with the moon in the background. I didn't order it at the time (what was I thinking!?!?) but would really like to do it. I saw it again recently ( probably in the same magazine) but can't find it now; tried doing a search online but couldn't find anything even close.

Our pretty new staff blog, Notions

You probably noticed our little facelift - new staff photos, new header and logo, etc. But have you noticed our new Connecting Threads Staff blog, Notions? Our QWU community serves our members well, but it's sometimes difficult to see what's going on with Connecting Threads because this is such an active community. Nothing will change with QWU - all the same features. But beginning today, all CT staff… Continue
