Absent

Have been absent for about 2 weeks.  Went to quilt camp on 10/9 and came home 10/13.  Just checked in with you all tonight so took some time to catch up.

Forgot my camera at home so didn't get photos of quilts to show you.  I made 2 pillowcases for my hairdresser who is continuing to battle breast cancer with metastesis to liver.  Then I worked rest of time on  a king size quilt for my DD stepson and fiancée; not done yet.  Will post photo when finished.  They…

Miracles do happen!

Yesterday I was given the news that my brother's son's had met with a tragic accident on a construction job site. They had been electrocuted and feel 3 stories off a ladder. The electricity had passed through one brother into the other and literally BLEW them off the ladder and out of their shoes. The oldest had been declared brain dead late yesterday afternoon and disconnected from life support and the other has no memory of the event. To top things off, I was also notified that my father,…

Advice on Double Wedding Ring

I'm thinking about starting a DWR and am overwhelmed by the various techniques. The templates, or the strip piecing cut into arcs, or the strip piecing stitched into arcs in a secondary siege of sewing (it's hard to describe something you don't understand) or just hand piecing. I'm sure I've missed something else--oh yes, the foundation piecing.

What worked best for those of you who have made one?

What didn't work at all?

Did you finish the project?

Would you make…

Girl's night out...

Every Fall, a group of us plan an outing. this year, it was my turn to plan it. This is no easy task...these women are tough! lol So, we started out with a full day of outlet shopping, because it was on the way to the main event! I booked us for culinary lesson on making Harvest Soups...We were two hours from home, so rented rooms close to the school. This was sooo much fun.

They have a high end kitchen that has 24 stations.…

All my bags are packed and I'm ready to go......

Quick as I can update. I've had a horrible time with this virus(?) we've had. Tuesday I had terrible pain when inhaling, then passed out and ended up here in the hospital. Heart and lungs are good, and it's not the flu. Still not sure what happened. From the way I felt on the way here I thought I had a collapsed lung or something! I never thought I was a "sissy", but apparently I'm not as tough as I thought I was! Looks like I get out today, which is good because my mom passed away last… Continue

It's 2 AM and can't sleep

Well, another night when I'm not wide a wake - but I am not sleeping either!  Won't try to sew as I've tried that in the past and what a mistake that was!!  Have been looking at one of my favorite web pages by Bonnie K Hunter at Quiltville.com.  Love Bonnie's use of scraps, her blogs about scraps, her patterns, etc.  Some day, I would like to meet her.

Morning will come all too soon.  Need to be up by 6 a.m. and out the door by 7.  Going to a Literacy Conference for the annual…

Another point of view to consider.

I thought that I'd post my two cents worth on how the economy has affected the closing of quilt shop businesses. I was intrigued by a previous post  by another reader and the many responses. Always like to read other opinions. I posted the following in response to that previous post. I believe that this is a valuable discussion, so I invite others to also post.

There are hardly any LQS in Jersey. One must go across the borders of NY and PA to find anything decent. Yes,…

The cutting/sewing table full of the next batch of ironing and cutting…sigh…so much of this is from the quilt shop…I miss the quilt shop with it’s quality fabrics in fabulous prints, surrounded with great ideas and even greater people…but I digress…got ironing to get to!

So much has happened in my life!

I can't believe it! It's been several months since I checked in and wrote a post. So much has taken place that my quilting passion has been put on hold for several months.

Firstly, I won a couple of red ribbons on several quilts that I entered at the NJ State Fair, Sussex County Farm and Horse show! I was hoping for a couple of blue ribbons. Guess I'll have to work on techniques sighted in the comment cards.  But I'm happy that I took home a few ribbons. I must remember that it isn't…

High Fiber—Quilt Shop, Quilt Show and Fun With Friends

Big news! We finally have a local quilt shop with the opening of Davidene’s Quilt Shop just a few minutes from my home!

One of the great things about this quilt shop is the fact that they sell Connecting Threads thread! It's a little more expensive than in the catalog, but really…

Vintage find...

We were out cruising the back roads to my favorite quilt shop in Fly Creek outside Cooperstown, NY. Stumbled onto a new winery, so stopped for a tasting. The weather is spectacular this week... Then onto the quilt shop...I purchased some batiks for a wedding…

I have rented a condo north of the city for the long w/e. DS came with me and dd and bf are hours late LOL. Lovely patio facing the lake. Walked puppy down to the beautiful sandy beach. When I came back the woman 2 doors down came to my door and invited me to join their family for dinner if I was here on my own. WoW. A perfect stranger. She has lived here 20 years and loves it. I can see why!! The sun is shining and it is hot out!!

Unwelcomed guest...

We are spending the last week at the lake before closing for the winter. Fall in CNY has been spectacular. It's another beautiful week. We were sitting out enjoying the fireplace last night, when all of a sudden, what saunders up...A HUGE SKUNK...OMG...when I say HUGE this was the biggest skunk...I froze and hubby started chirping and slowly moving his hands to let the skunk know that we didn't want to be sprayed!!! He turned and had his tail up and ready... but slowly exited...can you even…

flannel sewing

Angel sets for angels as small as 18 weeks gestation; these will be going to God’s Tiny Angels in the next box. And I notices I made 6 girl sets and one lone boy set…so I now have 5 more boy fat quarter sets ready to go. Each one of these sets took 2 fat quarters of flannel: 2 teeny tears diapers and one 12 inch…
