Is This a Problem?

One of my favorite local quilt shops sent out a newsletter today lamenting the proliferation of purchasing quilting fabrics and notions online.  She stated (and this is true locally) that many LQS's have closed recently due to being unable to financially sustain themselves (due to online purchasing? - Not so sure.)  Perhaps this is more a result of the ongoing recession in rural areas.  What do you think?

Autumn in Central Alberta

At my sewing machine:  O Tannenbaum

On my quilt hoop:  Sally Post

On my needles:  some lovely Knit Picks worsted for a sweater for DH

UFO down:  Crabapples by Bonnie Hunter

As the autumn days pass, we are delighted with each day that it's above zero Celsius and we can get out and enjoy some autumn weather.  All too soon the dreaded white stuff will appear on our lawn and we'll have to hunker down for the winter.  I've been busy taking Craftsy classes, watching…

Great way to start the day!

My DH is great, he loves to make breakfast and often asks me what I want.  Well today, since it is my BIRTHDAY I asked for Apricot Sour Cream Scones.... and he delivered (or more accurately baked).

On top of that ... he made my all time most favorite, of course it is chocolate, dessert for tonight  -- with just a little help/direction.... a…

Walmart Confrontation...

Well...I came as close to being beat up as I care to get...not kidding! I went to Walmart to pick up a hundred things I don't need(you know how that is at this place)...was cruising through the toys and along with another couple in the same aisle heard this woman one aisle over yell at her son SHUT the F---up or I'll slap the S---out of you. She came around the corner and I said Really, that's how you talk to your baby. She said, if you weren't in a wheelchair (I use it for long shopping…

Can you say OUCH!

Early this morning I went to have the injection done to cervical area of my spine. I am NOT impressed with the doctor who did it. For one, he just saw me last week and told ME that I would be given sedation for the procedure AND I told HIM I had a problem with certain forms of iodine. When I saw him this morning, NONE of that information was on the chart that the "nurse" anesthetist was going over. They had to FIND a special antibacterial to use. The doc comes in an looks at the chart and…

Meeting in a Fabric Store!

I just thought you all might like to hear a short story of something that happens to me all the time!  I was fabric shopping today in a local fabric shop.  This time I was looking for new curtain fabric instead of quilting fabric, but as usual I mosied (this is a Texas word, not found in the dictionary) on over to the quilt fabrics anyway.  There was another lady there also looking at every bolt of fabric and shaking her head.  She looked at me and said, "I just can't find the right colors…

sew much accomplished!

Angel sets for angels as small as 18 weeks gestation; these will be going to God’s Tiny Angels in the next box.  And I notices I made 6 girl sets and one lone boy set…so I now have 5 more boy fat quarter sets ready to go.  Each one of these sets took 2 fat quarters of flannel: 2 teeny tears diapers and one 12 inch square tiny little lovie.  I added a matching no sew…

Entering into new phase...

Don't tell my mom, but...I'm going to start using the "good" silverware and dishes for everyday use! I KNOW!!! I'll probably go to hell for this action...Can you really wear out silverware? It frees up a lot of storage space...the old stuff is head to the lake house.

I found these "tea towels" in a drawer.  My grandmother made them for my parents...they have been married 64 yrs.!!! The term "tea towels" brings me back to my great aunt's farm kitchen on holidays and we're all drying…

Hugs and Kisses Christmas Quilt Top

It's been a while since I posted...but I have to share my latest quilt top.  Though it has not been made into a quilt yet, I'm always gratified when it has come this far.  This probably won't be finished until Christmas 2014.  My sister and I have been working on this one for my aunt and another Christmas quilt for my mother so the both of them won't be done until 2014.  075.JPG …

Back in the sadle again

Well folks,  I'm back after almost two month without a computer.  My son bought me this laptop as an early Christmas present but I'm just now getting to use it.  The first LT (an HP) I bought had to be taken back as it wouldn't work wireless.  Then I exchanged it for this Dell.  I'm glad I have a good friend who is a computer expert as he has had to teach me how to navigate this Window's 8.  It is so different and less user friendly in my opinion.

I have been busy this Summer with…

what furloughed workers have time to do.

It's time to clean up a few of the UFOs. Some are stuck on the shelf for a reason.

I copied the spider web pattern  a few years ago, and obviously, my printer didn't get the angles quite right, so I had to adjust a bit and not all the corners are perfect.   When I was ready  to attach the centers they became spiders with  padding and legs of  wool yarn, rick rack,…
