Hey, what the heck, I clicked on Learn Tab and found a utube video that actually teaches binding...with mitered corners... so I can pull out an UFO and test it!!!

Happy New Year! A friend sent me the information on this site and I liked what I saw so joined. The lovely Pacific Northwest is rainy today, the usual, but that is much better than the snow of the last two weeks! I live about 20 miles outside Portland in Washington State, and we are not used to two weeks of snow and ice! A few days, yes. I managed to get to work everyday since it's only about 5 miles and no big hills, so I didn't get to do all the quilting I might have been able to do. Today I… Continue

I for one am glad to see 2008 gone. It has most decidedly not been a good year. I have great hopes for 2009 though. Here in Louisiana there are many areas where fireworks are legal and for some weird reason NY eve is a huge fireworks night. Last night was a trial for poor Dexter, the noise terrified him and the smell upset him as well. Poor thing, my DH and I could not even take him for his nightly walk as we were worried that he would be burned.
Today's plan is to hit the stores for… Continue

Hello. I'm new to the group and love that this group is here. How fun!
I am from NW corner of Iowa near Orange City.
I love to piece the best and have many UFO's to prove it.
I'm off to look around the site and see what this is all about.

It is cold in Southwest Virginia but the sky is blue. I am getting ready to go through my quilting books and pick out 2 patterns. I am making a challenge quilt with Fiesta colors. I was in San Antonio last year and fell in love with the bright colors. My friend and I hurried to the local quilt store and bought the fabrics and challenged each other. She reported to me she has started and here I am still looking! We meet in a few months ! I am also making quilts for my nieces and nephews and have… Continue

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE
I too am from very cold Illinois, rural Seneca to be exact. I have a fantastic hubby and 2 adult children. This past year, I had my Mom living with us. She passed away in October very peacefully. So I haven't been sewing or quilting at all for the past year. I sure hope to get back into the swing of things very soon. So glad CT started this new section to their already fantastic web site. I look forward to making new friends here and to pick your brains and to… Continue

Happy New Year to all the Quilters out there. I have been sewing for close to 30 years, but have only been quilting for close to 5. I am considering purchasing a long arm quilting machine/table. I have not long arm quilted before. I always send my large quilts out for quilting, but am thinking I would like to do it myself. Any thoughts, suggestions on machine types, quality, etc. I am currently looking at the HandiQuilter 16 with the Studio Frame. I just started looking, so would appreciate any… Continue

Happy New Year from NOLA. (New Orleans, Lousianna).
You might think 9 is excessive... but I am the type that can pull 9 out of my closet in a partially finished state. I love making the tops but tend to bog down with the quilting and freak out with the binding.
As for Polar Bears: I went to college at Michigan Tech, which is 10 miles from Lake Superior. The new year tradition was delayed due to ice. So, every spring (or early summer) when the ice would start to break up,… Continue

Thank you for the quick responses. I love to have this kind of contact. It will be fun to be able to exchange ides and thoughts here. I see that I am not alone in the world of drafting. It really all started when I studied Lynette Jensen's patterns and noticed that almost all of hers are based on a 2 inch square. Having that infomation, I tried to drafting new blocks with 2 inch square base. It worked very nicely. From there I tried some more intricate pattern shapes and they worked as well.… Continue

Happy New Year from chilly Quad Cities IL but at least it isn't snowing, which after December is a very good thing. Spent the last two days cleaning my quilting studio after the snow melt/rain last weekend left is 'slightly wet' but fortunately no real damage. I had wanted to do some reorganization but that wasn't the time frame, however it has worked out and I really like the little things I did - no big reorganization as the 12' table and Nolting Pro 24" only fit certain places. Think my best… Continue

It's a balmy -22C. here this morning. No swimming for me but it's a great day for tidying my sewing room to make room for more fabric which goes on sale tomorrow!

And Happy New Year. I decided today would be a good day to straighten my sewing/craft room. It will be in the 70's later today, so I might just go out and look for more fabric. You all enjoy your day!!!!

Happy 2009! Hope everyone is well. I got to spend some quality "quilting" time last evening. I am in the process of cutting out a table topper. Hope to start putting it together this weekend, really today, but in-laws, kids, and grandbabies are coming for New Year's dinner, so I will be busy in the kitchen.
The weather here this morning is very cold, 12 degrees, and snow on the ground. At least the sun is out and the wind has died down.
Anyone on this site from West… Continue

Happy New Year from the Buckeye State. It's cold but clear here. Unfortunately today there's no sewing in my future, but painting. I have an old farmhouse that I've been working on for almost 5 years and today is the day I finally finish painting the wainscoting in the downstairs. It took me two years to figure out what color I wanted and where to find a paint color that was more representative of the house's era.
Hopefully 2009 will bring everyone more fabric and quilts to enjoy! Thanks… Continue

My 1st blog! Best wishes for an awesome 2009 to all. I have enjoyed my 3 years of quilting, having finished a few of my larger quilts on a longarm machine at a shop in Tacoma. This winter's snow gave me a few extra days I hadn't counted on and made my first wang-hanging for my parents for Christmas, something I have wanted to do if I could find the time....well, it found me snowed in a few weeks ago, so I went for it! I have made many tablerunners and baby quilts, which is why I started sewing… Continue
