Jim in a hushed voice: ...one final press. Mary's opening her quilt (quiet applauding). Oh absulotly beautiful. She's completed a perfect Mariner's Compass quilt top.
Booker T: Look at all those points! I don't think I've ever seen a better example!
Jim: That finishes our hand peicing event. While the setup is going on for the final event, why don't we recap for our audience some of today's events. Shelly completly blew away everyone in the… Continue

the newest member of our family!
We've named her Missy, she's about eight weeks old, black lab, and the runt of the litter. She's very well behaved and very intelligent. She's also very sweet!

I have a rare Sunday off, so I made today a quilting day. I was up at a pretty early time, 6:30am to be exact. Went downstairs, had some breakfast, went back upstairs, took my shower, then went to my quilting room. I have a baby quilt that I wanted to get basted today. I got everything I needed, got my layers centered and all smoothed out. At this point, my cat Psycho decided to supervise. Spent the next forty minutes working around my supervisor. My supervisor is weird and likes to have… Continue

This is my quilt from a New Year's Day project. It came out really pretty. Summer says we have to keep it. :)
We had a wonderful Christmas with very little emotional upset over it being our first Christmas without Duane. Summer was ecstatic over her presents and almost knocked me to the floor from hugging me! I got some cd's, some movies, and of course, fabric. My sister gave me two tied-dyed long-sleeved t-shirts that are in my favorite colors. I am glad things have settled… Continue

At 6:00am, the school's automated update system called to let us know that there was a two hour delay because of the fog. Summer heard the phone ring and I told her what was up and let me sleep some more, which she did. At about 8:30, school was canceled. After that, I went upstairs to sew and got the center portion of quilt completly quilted. All that is left is the borders, which I don't think will take long. While sewing, my Aunt Mildred called. We chatted for a while and I told her of a… Continue

Yesterday, I had a very stupid moment. I know one of our machines has a very sharp edge. I was in a hurry and sliced my finger on it. I had to go to the ER and get five stitches for it. After I was patched up, I called Mom to come get me, which she did. She also took me to get some tylonel and large bandaids for when the gauze comes off, because I still have to keep it covered. I had to get a tetnis booster because of the metal, even though it gets cleaned once a week. I was complaining… Continue

As I mentioned in one of my previous blogs, I was going to get a tattoo in honor of my husband's passing. I finally got it today! I'm very happy with it. And yes, it hurt some, but giving birth hurt a lot more! It's kind of hard to see in the picture, but it says semper fi, the marine corp motto. I got the blue around it because it was Duane's favorite color. I LOVE MY… Continue

Just thought I would give an update on how we are doing. Duane's monument is up. i'm glad that it's up, but kind of sad too, because it's final now. His earthly life is done. I know he's in heaven, and we'll meet again, but he's not HERE anymore. However, Summer and I are doing very well with our grief. We still have our moments, but they are coming farther apart and not so painful when they do happen.
Summer had her flutophone concert last Friday. She did very well. She was… Continue

Today, Mom and I went on our yearly trip to the Sauder's Village Quilt Show in Archbold, Oh. We had a blast, like always. This year, I entered a quilt for the show. Didn't win any ribbons, but I wasn't seriosly expecting too, since it my first time entering a quilt. The quilt I entered is at the bottom.
They have a challange catagory. They provide fabric and a theme and you have to have it a certain size, but other than that, you're free to do what you want. This year's… Continue

I haven't been doing much quilting. I got sidetrack by making dolls. I came across the pattern in a magazine, and thought it would be fun. Summer saw what I was doing and asked if she could do one. I said of course, and went about making her a doll form that she could decorate. She decided to do Abby from NCIS, her favorite charater from her favorite show. I just fusable apiliqued stuff that were representations of my life. Then, we went over to my mom's house for trim.
Let me… Continue

I finally got a new couch. Not really new. A sweet, older woman moved into a small house and didn't have room for it. I got it for $70. It's gold with a very large floral print. Not normally what I choose, but it doesn't have springs poking me in various places or a board across the small of the back. It is very comfortable.
Update on my last blog: The plant now has four leaves and a whole bunch of new growth. I will be getting some potting soil for it when next I go shopping.… Continue

I don't have a green thumb. I wish I did, but I don't. Everyone else in my family has one, but I don't.
I recieved one plant from Duane's funeral. It was from all my coworkers, so the card said, but Natalie's mom owns a flower shop. That doesn't matter. What matters is Summer, my dd, loves it. So I've been doing my best to keep it alive. I put it by a funerace duct because my house is old and drafty. I've put it where it will recieve the most sunlight. I bought some aqua… Continue

I had plans for this weekend involving an anniversary steak dinner w/ my husband and DD at Grammy's . My plans had been changed, unfortunatley. (My husband passed away earlir this month.) I told Summer, my DD, that she could invite one girl to spend the night since I had the weekend off anyway. I honestly didn't think I could handle any more than one. I was right. Both Summer and her friend are being very well behaved, but they are 10 and 9 and just being giggly. I wonder if I was like this… Continue

Well, the top is pieced. I will get it quilted later. It's funny, a quilt that was supposed to be done in one day took me over two weeks. Time is always an issue wiht me.

It was a very good Christmas. Summer loved all her presents, Duane loved his presents, and I love my presents. Especially the sweet and sour fatq collection!!! I ate too much. Mom's miracle whip cake with candy cane frosting was delicious as always. I tried to be nice to my sister who wasn't feeling the best, but my nephew wouldn't eat from me, only from mama. (Sorry Sis!) Everyone said my puppy chow was the best, and I told them a secret. My puppy chow was made with dark chocolate chips… Continue

I have hear there is a fine line between genius and insanity. I'm wondering which side of the line I'm on right at the moment. I thought it would be a great idea to make a green satin doll dress with celtic applique to celebrate my heritage and pass it along to my daughter. I decided to make the bias strips with a 1/8' finished width and design a pattern for the dress. All of this is within my abilities. However, I've never used 1/8' bias strips before. And I think making bias strips is… Continue

A time when local business make beans, have sidewalk sales, sample beans, local chuuches have fish frys, beans, sausage sandwiches, ice cream floats, beans. When some bouncy rides and face painting and beans for kids. Also a parade. And beans. It makes for $$$$ at work, but kinda of sore for the body.
My family has engaged in the primary activity of sampling beans. I kid you not, i think they've had a quart of free sample beans… Continue

Well, not really. Today was my short day. Then i have the next two days off. It's been forever since i've had this much time off in a row. Plan to get some more quilting done hopefully. My daughter Summer wants a play date with my three old year niece, Marie, whose favorite book is Dr Suess's Abc book. The first page is Aunt Annie' Alligator, so i am affectionatly known as anniegator. Anyway, my mom is baby sitting Marie and my nephew JImmy Ray and said she'll take summer wiht her.
