Quilt With Us

Lois/TX!'s Blog (11)

My Dad died...

the first day of this month and I haven't been around here much.

A universal happening that takes enormous emotional proportions and energy out of me yet everyone experiences first-hand at one point or another.

There's days where I feel like I'm sleepwalking through life.

I find comfort in needle, thread, and pulling stitches through cotton.

I think going to Houston next week will be more helpful for me than any

other year I've attended Festival.

So much…

Oh, It's Only to Dye For!

Well the Texas heat is cranked up high with rain wished/hoped/prayed for so...... the crape myrtle trees blossoms are falling with the breeze so.........I scooped some up, put white cotton fabric in the old porcelain-to-metal bowl, placed the blossoms on top and then added boiling water w/a splash of vinegar and gently stirred.

Carefully put the bowl down in a sunny spot of the yard and will check the progress later after…

It's disgusting how spammers "pose" as a quilter and fill out a page and hang their address up.

God Bless Karen and staff who must cull through the members to find and kick them off.

It's a humongous job I imagine: any ideas on how me and other quilters…

Spring is Crowding in despite Cold Fronts...get outta the way, Winter

The hints of spring are here and I'm delighted to witness it.

Flocks of red robins peck under trees, hopping and chattering about.

Under grey skies and chilly air their chirpy hope wafts my way.

By the garage door edge a crop of daffodils-to-be are standing, some with buds of promise while others share the open bloom. A few hardy dandelions emerge faithfully in spots scattered across the…

International Quilt Festival ~ Houston

I'm guessing alot of you know this but you can see quilt winners and exhibits photos from Festival by clicking the red shoes at www.quilts.com once you enter the site. There's a sidebar margin on the left that indexes photo categories. Of course, the textile beauties all look so much better in person but you get the idea!
Be inspired!

It's Happening!

Rain Is Falling!
Thank You, sew+sweet=sisterz for your prayers!
God does work in mysterious ways but I'm ever so grateful.
So unexpected, out of the blue, this rain is but I love it..I'm over the moon about it.

Too Dry + Too Hot = Brown Lawn and Hot Sidewalks

Okay summer and all her waves of heat, bright sun with zero clouds above is gracing Texas (esp. DFW Metroplex) and I don't like it!

I hand-water with the hose (more "green") early in the morning while dodging and slapping voracious mosquito's. I empty and refill the bird bath and lawn plant dish everyday. The latter dish is for the squirrels who are hesitant to scramble up the bird bath and I do water one thick silver maple tree branch for a female squirrel who rests on the cool bark after… Continue

It's 89F...still the mid-cool of the day...

Hi sew-spiration gal-palz out there!

Hope you got your lemonade by your side...summer is really here!

Between sewing a label on a finished quilt and laundry I'm forcing

myself to get out now while it's still bearable (!) and get my exercise

bike ride in...it's almost 90 in the shade (lol, there isn't any!) AND

within a few hours will be 100F+ and tomorrow the same.

The cicada's are singin' to beat the band.

In the good ole'… Continue

Tumbling Tofu

Today is a tofu day.
Get out the vegies too & slice 'em up - lightly stir-fry.
Me? I'll be in the swivel chair having needle fun with epp.
Will stir for yummy results.

Hmmm... A setback or a blessing?

Last night:

Going downstairs during tv show break (Fringe) to give Smudge a snack, my ankle curved in and I tumbled down the last 4-6 steps, some tearz spilled and felt the pain/saw the 'egg' swelled over my ankle. In my attempt not to freak out I slid/dragged myself across the living room (yay laminate flooring!) and pulled myself up to reach the kitchen phone to discover dh was almost home. Yes, I made the trip to CareNow, had 3 xrays, learned I only 'royally' (my term)… Continue

My New Profile Pic (update)

As of 4-7-09: to keep dh happy am letting whatever wants to grow on top just come out and grow. At present taking a buzz to my head is not happening...probably not for a long time...there are few things I can do to keep dh happy usually...keeping the top of my head clear of a shaver or razor is one thing I can do.

Yes, quite a change...this is the shortest I've ever had my hair.

I don't expect everyone to understand my choice but it's my way of dealing… Continue
