Week One on the NEW JOB!!!

Tomorrow will be the end of my first week on the new job! After some confusion about start dates (19th or 26th or May 3), the manager told me to come in this past Monday! Nice place -- they gave me a little box of Godiva chocolates as a 'starting gift', plus a new laptop, new iPhone, free coffee, tea & sodas -- quite a setup. AND it's 3 blocks from the Joann fabric store. Could be trouble, huh, if I spend my new salary on fabric now HEE HEE HEE. Quite possible - I bought fabric yesterday for… Continue

Ambitious Project #2

OK -- so I got interested in the talk about the 'Disappearing Nine Patch', and true to form (for me) HAD to come up with something that looks really complicated, but might just turn out to be pretty quick to put together. Here it is: my 'Nine Patch Lost and Found' pattern (drawn in EQ6). I put together three blocks with 5 shades of blue, and started playing with placement. I think the 'on point' versions are fabulous, with sashing and corner stones. What do you think?

More on the dilemma

I got a job offer -- kind of -- I guess they're checking background & references, so no offer letter or start date yet. Waiting is such a drag! Don't want to jinx it by making any big announcements, so twiddling my thumbs and trying to be positive. Did I say waiting is a drag?

DH does NOT want to move to Memphis. His family moved 9 times before he was 12 years old, so I suspect he just dreads the upheaval. No new house in my future any t

Such a dilemma!

DH is going to Memphis next week for an interview...could end up moving there if they sweeten the deal to his liking. I had a phone interview last week, with face-to-face follow up to come. Could be the end of our contracting days, if we both get real jobs, but then we have to figure out where to live, and who will commute. Not sure what I want really -- move to Memphis to a new house (never had one of those...might be my turn), or stay here and rebuild on our lot, but DH would be commuting (not… Continue

Andrea & Bridget's Quilt

I'm SOOOO excited this week! My dear friend Andrea posted a note on Facebook asking if any of her Atlanta friends knew about quilting. I answered that I had started this mania in the summer...anyway, long story short...Andrea came over Sunday to show me her project!

Her daughter Bridget (3 going on 35) goes to Montessori school, and they have her 'sewing' every week -- outlining shapes with running stitches in brightly colored cotton yarn. A

Flood repairs -- finally!

Roofers and dry-wall guys are here today making a HUGE mess, but promising a new roof, repaired siding and soffits, and all new ceiling paint inside. This in response to the flooding and roof damage last September (took 'em long enough, huh?) God sent good weather today (sunny & 60's)...it's only 9:45, and they have the roof stripped already! Was going to host my monthly 'Girls Night In' card party tonight, but I had to postpone until this craziness is over. Cats are hiding under the beds,… Continue

Every good road trip needs a quilting detour!

Went on a road trip today with DH & DF. Daddy (81) wanted to visit friends at his old school near Pine Mountain, GA, so with DH driving, we set out this morning to tour Central Georgia. We stopped in the tourist center in Pine Mtn, and I picked up a flyer from a LQS in nearby Ellerslie. Being the GOOD SPORTS that they are, DH & DF agreed to go waste some time with me looking at quilt stuff. The store is Sunday Best Quilt Works...check out this COOL template they have for making HSTs! He… Continue

BARGELLO!!!!!

HELP PLEASE! How do I quilt this thing? While looking for Christmas ideas, I kept seeing bargello Christmas trees and thinking that would be fun to try. Then I saw watercolor quilts, with all the carefully placed gradations of color. SO...I just finished piecing my first wall hanging as a gift for our lovely neighbor Sue, who helped me through the ceiling collapse last week. It's a scrappy, strippy, bargello, watercolor, fussy, ditchy/stitchy (and maybe even applique...I can't seem to stick to… Continue

On hold...sigh...

Got home from Reno Air Races on Monday at midnight & found the basement in an inch of water. Stood in the hall on Tuesday night & watched the living room ceiling collapse from water logged insultation -- onto the edge of the grand piano. Found another big water spot in the ceiling of the guest room, where DFIL was supposed to sleep when he arrived Wednesday! Got an EMAIL (!!!) telling me my consulting job ended on Friday. Now with DFIL and DBIL staying here while house hunting, so they c… Continue

I'm amazed!

Ran across this 'wunderkind' just now, and had to make a note! This young lady is just amazing! I'm getting inspired to try some of the quilting patterns she's doing. She has given herself a challenge to create a new free-motion machine quilting pattern every day for a year! http://www.freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/ and her website: http://www.daystyledesigns.com/stippling.htm Continue

Real life sets in...sigh...

Well crud! Had to actually go to work and ...well... WORK today! Kind of a bummer after the long weekend and my stellar quilting accomplishments! This flipping back and forth from right brain to left brain is crazy-making! Got a follow-up from a job application sent last week, so spent this evening filling out a form to tell them how wonderful I am. Hope something comes of this one...getting tired and stressed just doing short-project consulting. I PROMISE to sew tomorrow evening! Continue
