Finished another Q4K quilt! Football players for a little boy.
I also found a space/astronomy themed cheater panel at the latest guild meeting and I bought that for another Q4K quilt, when I get some time. I'll cut it up and put some pinwheels in between the blocks
Have a happy a Easter…

I have lately been avoiding taking classes through the guild because they all seem to wind up adding a UFO to my pile. I said I would not start one project until I finished at least two significant UFOs that haunt my sewing room.
I have been working to that goal for a while now but this month I am taking a non-sewing class! The class is about drafting quilting designs that fit specific areas of your quilt! I've been working very hard at improving my FMQ skills so I don't…

The silent auction is a fundraiser for the guild, to bring in speakers and to pay for the meeting facilities; things like that. The dragonflies are from a UFO that is at least 5 years old. I took a class in machine…

My 10-year old son and I are working on a quilt for his grandmother (my MIL). We've been having so much fun working on it! It's paper pieced so it's easy for him to sew on the line. I arrange the fabric and he sews on the line! …

My friends and I started this "Nickel" quilt for the Quilts of Valor charity many months ago. We all contributed fabric and had a few group sewing sessions to get the sub-units together. Then I offered to piece the blocks together, but I haven't really been able to spend too much time in my sewing room for a while. This weekend, I finally finished the top.

This year we did a honey baked ham and we have so many leftovers, I put a call out to my facebook friends for ideas on what to do with the leftovers. A friend of mine from work sent this and it's presently in the oven smelling SO good I thought I would post it.
8 oz med egg noodles
2 T. butter
1/2 c. chopped onions
1/2 c. chopped green bell pepper (I used red because it's milder for the kids, but either would work)
1 can condensed cream of mushroom…

I am having my B-I-L, and his family (a total of 6 people), my M-I-Land step-F-I-L, and my other B-I-L over for Thanksgiving. A total of 13 people including my family. I seem to be the person who is psycho enough to do this for the past several years. This year I am making the following:
Appetizers:
Shrimp De Jonge, mini quiches, potato skins, asian dumplings, chips & dip
Dinner:
Turkey, brined in water, sea salt, soy sauce, brown sugar, maple…

I haven't posted in a while due to my work travel schedule. Since the beginning of October I've been to Boston, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Jackson, Denver, and Sacramento. Next week it's Minneapolis AND THAT'S IT! At least for the for the rest of the year. It's been hardest on my son. When I'm home he keeps hugging me over and over saying he misses me. I keep telling myself that I'm in the home stretch.
After I get done posting here, I plan to go down to the girl cave and do a little…

Well, yesterday I returned from a business trip to Pittsburgh (which I love - born there, went to High School there). I haven't been there in close to 25 years. I wanted to get downtown...I love going through the Ft. Pitt tunnel and BAM you are in the middle of downtown with all the lights and bridges! Unfortunately I didn't get the chance. Work kept me close to the hotel. I need to go for leisure instead of work so I can see all the things I want to.
I'm feeling a little…

OK, perhaps it's because I've had an extra glass of wine tonight, or perhaps it's because I am tired of getting these types of messages from my kids' school, but why do people HATE WORKING PARENTS???
Tonight I start reading through the materials that were sent home with my kids and I see this note from the Parent's Group from our school. It goes on to say how they need volunteers for this and that, and bemoan the fact that participation in low, and the Parent's group…

I just got back from a trip to Purdue University. My sisters and I funded an endowed scholarship in memory of my mother who attended Purdue while we were growing up in West Lafayette. She was a wonderful inspiration to all of us and she was always so proud of her degree we couldn't think of a better way to honor her. (So much of an inspiration that all three of us have Purdue degrees!)
Every year my sister and I attend the scholarship award ceremony and meet the recipients.…

Since Tuesday, my 10-year old DS has been on a school trip to Nature's Classroom in Mukwanago, WI. One of the chaparones sent some pictures home so I thought I would post some of them. In the first one, he's the kid on the right in the green shirt.
Here's one of him acting goofy...…

Tomorrow morning I leave for a "real" vacation. No DH, no kids, just me and my two sisters; one older by 18 months, and one younger by about 12 months (my mother was insane). My older sister has a vacation condo in the Smokey Mountains in South Carolina, near the Georgia and North Carolina border. We should be well inland from Earl.
We've been planning this for months, and the plan is just to be together and hang out. Drink some good wine, play some golf, go boating, hang out…

I'm heading to San Francisco on a business trip tomorrow! My parents lived in the bay area for about 7 years, back in the 90's. I just love the area. I'm going to try to hit Britex Fabrics, though their quilting fabrics are limited. I just love the store and the notions are cooler than cool! An embellisher's paradise! And the fabrics from asia are just beautiful.
I wish there was time for a side trip to Napa! I could do some serious damage to my credit cards there! V. Sattui…

Well, I haven't posted in about a month so I thought it was time to put up some pictures and share what I am working on.
I am trying hard to improve my FMQ skills, and to that end, I purchased the Big 'n Bold kit from CT with the Twilight Frost fabrics when it went on clearance a few months ago. I can't believe how quickly it came together. I happened to show the quilt top to a good friend of mine, and now it will be her birthday present, once it is…

On Saturday, I am taking a workshop from Bonnie Hunter through my guild. If you are not familiar with Bonnie, here's her website www.quiltville.com She is the master of the scrap quilt and has many free patterns on her website.
The class I am taking is called Virginia Bound, and the class is all about making quilts from old shirts! You cut them into strips and make these amazing pieces. The ultimate in "green" quilting! At first I raided…

I think I am actually looking forward to a rainy weekend! I won't feel obligated to work in the garden! My quilting has been calling to me! The best part is that my DH and DS will be going to a White Sox game on Sunday! I can just visualize me working on my CT Twilight Frost Big N Bold quilt! It's almost done being pieced and I'd like to start the quilting! I have been following Leah Day's blog of 365 free motion filler designs and I'm going to try several out on this quilt!…
