After work today I am heading up to my in-law's farm in SW Wisconsin for the weekend (near Wauzeka). I plan on working on a UFO from a class I took from Nora McMeeking called Roman Rings. Her quilts are based on marble tiles in many of the Italian cathedrals. Here's her website.... www.bellabellaquilts.com
I am doing a simplified version of this quilt....…
It's 11:45 here in the midwest and I have finished putting the binding on my DD's quilt. It's the biggest quilt I've actually compleled since 1990 (notice I didn't say "started", just "completed"), I FMQed it and I've never done that on a quilt this big. I usually do FMQ on smaller pieces, where I'm not that vested in the outcome. Usually it's a long-armer, but I I bought a Berninia 440QE last spring and I need to get my money's worth! I started out using the BSR but switched over to the…Continue
I need some advice on whether to block my quilt. I have never blocked a quilt before in my life, but then I heard about blocking on Simply Quilts a long time ago, heard Diane Gaudynski mention she did it, and saw that Karen McTavish does it to. They all block the quilt before binding it.
Now this is a bed quilt for my DD, and it will never be in any self-respecting show/museum, so "hanging evenly" isn't too much of a concern for me. But I also don't want it to look…Continue
I just found out this evening at my guild meeting that this is the last year that the Internation Quilt Festival will be held in the Chicago area! They are moving it to Cincinnati! :) I've been going for years and this is a big disappointment. :(
Here's a link to the announcement.
My partner in quilting crime just finished up a bunch of the red hourglass pieces and just sent me a new pic!
She's a maniac today! I have about 16 red/white hourglass blocks to add to hers. I can't believe how great it's turning out and how quickly it's coming together!
My friends and I made some great progress on our QOV quilt this Saturday. Below is a picture of the center blocks so far....
The sashing will be red and white hourglass blocks with white cornerstones! It's coming together! I love the scrappy look of it!
Thanks for all the great encouragement on our QOV journey! We got most of the blue quarter star units done and we have started the layout. One woman in our group is just great with color and layout so we "elected" her to do that. Once that is done we can sew the stars together.
Last night I was so jazzed about how beautiful it was turning out that I went ahead and started the red hourglass units that are the sashing. Easy to make but tough to square up. If anyone knows any…Continue
Today me and some of my friends are getting together to make a "Quilts of Valor" quilt for wounded soldiers! It's a nickel quilt pattern....below is a picture of the pattern...
We are going to keep the same color scheme and we all have been busy finding red, white, and blue fabric and cutting them up into squares for today! It will be fun to see how far we get. In all the years I have been sewing (many, many years), I have…Continue
We had a really nice day. After the morning egg hunt and breakfast, we all just kind of hung out for a while. It was very low key - no running to someone else's house, just the 4 of us together at home with no particular agenda. Just what I needed.
Later in the afternoon, I went down to my sewing room to make "nickels" (5-inch squares) for a "Quilts of Valor" quilt I will be working on with some of my friends from my guild next weekend. There's just something about the smell…Continue
