I have good news to share

This won't mean much to most of you out there but I just have to share this and since I'm rather isolated from family and friends I choose the next best thing by reaching out to all of you.

My oldest son called me yesterday with the news that he's engaged. Now, that might not seem like a big deal but for him it's enormous. His life has been a long journey of challenges, heartbreak, tragedies, missteps and mistakes and at times I've been the only one in his corner.

I've heard it said… Continue

Quilting Incognito

Hey everybody!

I haven't been here in awhile so I don't even know if this has already been discussed but since I just got my issue of Quilters Home Magazine out of the mailbox I'm going to assume it hasn't.

For some reason this really hit my funnybone.

In the new issue there is an article called Quilting Incognito and at the side he lists Quilt Diva names. As I read through the list lo and behold I found mine. I am Tara Seamout.

I don't even know if I can do this but… Continue

Time Flies...

I have been away too long and have missed all of you so very much. I've been preoccupied with life's usual busyness which has not included time spent quilting. I knew this was coming but it doesn't make me any more accepting of the changes I've had to make.

I envy those of you who juggle far more than I and yet manage to accomplish beautiful things, and that's why I keep coming back here for inspiration. I am who I am and I won't beat myself up anymore for not being what I wish I could be… Continue

God bless you Jinny Beyer....

For those of you who have corresponded with me, you know my story of how I came to be a quilter sort of by exposure rather than by training. I have written here in length about my mother and have found comfort and encouragement from all of you who have had similar experiences in losing your mothers. This site has been a marvelous and rewarding means of expression in many ways and has been an impetus to get me going when I might have been otherwise intimidated,

My Mom's mentor was Jinny… Continue

Loose Ends....

It's been 2 weeks since I finished the pinwheel quilt top. Most everyone else in this space would have had it quilted by now but I'm hesitant to take the next step. I did visit a local quilt shop that has a very efficient long arm quilting business within it and feel comfortable in using their services but the cost is a little more than I can afford right now.

Life is dramatically more different, even more difficult, than it was a year ago at this time. So much has changed since my husband… Continue

It's hard to find the words

All day today I have been receiving responses from my previous posting. The outpouring of kindness and empathy as all of you share your memories has touched my heart as you have said my story has touched yours. As different and diverse as we all are, we are all really very much alike. We have hearts and souls and care deeply about what matters.

I got a phone call just a little while ago from my aunt. My uncle, my Dad's older brother, is in the hospital in West Palm Beach which is a… Continue

Today is a special day

Today is my Dad's birthday. He's been gone less than a year and a half but it seems longer. I'll go this afternoon and place a flower on the grave that he and Mom share and reflect on the many wonderful memories he left behind.

My brother has said that he and I had as close to a perfect childhood as anyone could have and I would have to agree. Though we were raised in far from luxurious conditions we had loving generous parents who were from the Greatest Generation that Tom Brokaw wrote… Continue

It's a beautiful day in Florida....

Now that I have added photos to my page I feel like I finally belong! Many of you have commented on the beauty of the quilts and I hope you'll look closer and take note of the descriptions I wrote and see that most of the quilts were done by my mother.

I know that may seem like cheating to some but for those of you who have shared comments with me you will know that I often refer to my mother. It seemed appropriate to share her work with all of you.

Being able to share my memories of… Continue
