Mother day/ birthday/ anniversary gift.

My dear husband of 40 years of marriage today, decides he wants a Lone Star quilt. Make it to look like feathers. He keeps showing me pictures then says, " but more feather like and Native American colors." "Brown and orange," I reply? No and only solid fabric, after I showed him the fabric I like from CT. In fact I made a blue one, but that is not the right colors. I gave him a grid and told him to color it. He just looked back at me. That happen a few weeks ago. We went on vacation and…

A Bit of Luck

Do you feel the luck today? I sure do. I was told yesterday my blind spots in my right eye were gone. The scaring no. My vision is 20/20, but with severe light glare. That does not mean blindness is gone from my life. The implants lens can last only ten years. Ouch to that, but if that happens then I can have a chance at better placement and lens on my right eye. I did not realize I have not taken pictures of all my shamrocks quilts. I am going digging to found them in the closet, but Easter…

Fabric fix & CT mystery starts Wed 16th.

Did you see the one day fabric sale at CT? I know I don't need fabric but to finish a few I need some. Sure did not take long to get free shipping. I might even have one fabric new for the CT mystery. I got lots of Easter table runners done this month. I still have more fabric to make a few more.

A Gift of Love

I called my 90 year old mother to wish her Happy Valentine and ask her what she was doing.  she replied back, " I am teaching a sewing class". Now it is dinner time Sunday night.  Who? "The neighbor' kid". Which? The girl next door. Now that is odd. The kids are now back with their grand parents after being dumped at DFS (Division of Family Service) The dad was already in jail and the mom is now back too after being on the run and trying to sell and get drugs. The sweet child of seven was…

Merry Christmas

I want to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas from the bottom of my sewing heart. Nice 80* here, it broke the record. Lots of flooding too. We have a" nice lake" the real creek bed is over 100 feet away. I am going to avoid the mud and stay indoors and sew while I eat some more yummy foods.

Place mat question.

When you make a place mat what do you use to line it with inside? I do not want to quilt a lot.

Quilters Newsletter's " Christmas Surprises" by Tina Curran

Quilters Newsletter will be having a new block every Tuesday, starting last week. It is paper pieced Christmas Tree. Looks like fun. Still want to do the one they offered a few years back and noticed the block did come up under Christmas Surprise.

I hope everyone had a safe 4th. I did get lots of sewing done.

Batting, Binding and How do you storage too many quilts?

Batting has really changed in the past 40 years. When I started out cotton batting I used Mountain Mist. It has fallen apart in that quilt even thought it was sewn 1" apart. I started using 100% poly purchased right from the maker in Ks., the Amish where also buying a truck load of same, sent in train boxcar load-(that talking large loads). Poly does tend to wave more along the edges. I just tried Warm and Natural 100% poly.($5 yard on sale) it was tightly woven, but I still…

Cross stitch baby quilt Question.

My aunt gave me cross stitch baby quilt kit that she got for her mother-in-law, only she was not able to do any of it. The directions have gotten misplaced. She said she got it at Hobby Lobby, but they do not offer this quilt now. What I can make out of it is that it has a big bear and sea creatures all around it. Odd to figure out in the blue cross stitch. It also smells and the smell has not gone away out in the open. Can not wash it for the pattern will go away. Any ideas where I can go…

Taking control of the UFO

As some of you know I have been working on my sewing mess this year. January I did not like the outcome of the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt. I started one with ocean beach theme. I have so much sea fabric-  daughter's love- that for the border I decided to use leftovers from two other quilts.  I did have problems working it all out without a grid pattern or a design. This project led me to wanting a design board. Which my husband bought the supplies for my birthday this month-May. He has been…

Being Thankful

Thankful for my loving husband of 39 years this month. Tomorrow our area is having a clothes drive for abused women,( always thankful I did not stay with my abusive first husband.)    I always have a bag handy to add an item I no longer want. So since I did not work today I decided to clean out the linen closet, half of which holds wall quilts. As I was going through the stuff and fifty pillow cases I seem to hold on to, I once again have to ask myself why. Many of the pillow cases came…

What do you save?

I went through my fashion patterns trying to make myself downsize. I told myself 90% have to go, end up with half? It is hard for me to run to Jo-Ann 45 min away for the special $1 or bit more price, when I am in the fashion mood. I did save all the bag, hats and few children/ baby patterns. What would you save if room was more important.

I have sorted my scrapes into small bins or drawers and most end pieces are sewed together. I just need to come up with the right pattern to use it…

The Big "65"

O, What fun! My husband called it the big "65", I told the students I am a official senior now.  I am going to spend my birthday sewing. More like cleaning more on my sewing room. My husband said I should take a picture of the before and after. I wish I knew the answer to how in the world it got to be such a mess. spent hours yesterday sorting and pressing leftover precut pieces. Finished my purple lap quilt top on Monday night. I am finding lots of UFO. My husband did not like the colors of…

March April fun

I have been sorting precut left over pieces. My goal was to get rid of one  30 gallon container. The goal is close to being made into four super scrape quilts. Another is in the making, but I am not getting too excited yet. I did stuff a pillow case and sorted the pieces while on trip back to Missouri last week. Just about now after four days of sewing have gone through the bag and trying to make the last quilt. It is so odd in colors and pieces I can see why I have UFO of started scrapes…

Why is it so hard to say no?

The phone rang last Saturday with a request to help with the Fashion Club outfits.  We are using tulle. Only I thought it was helping the girls sew their own skirt in tulle. The teacher did not tell me on the phone or I missed the part she wanted me to make, now wait for the number, 25 students with design ideas skirts. All in the next five week, sooner really so they can add to them and model (walk)in them. I had to relate I really can not make 25 special skirts by taking all my machines…
