I don't remember which group my Mom read about doing this quilt race in. I think it's also called the 1600 quilt. Anyways, at Thanksgiving, while Skyping with my sister and niece in Nebraska, we all decided it would be fun to quilt and Skype together at Christmas (and race, of course!) What a success! I'm including mine and Mom's tops - hoping Jeannine & Anna post their quilt pics soon too.
OK, ok, I didn't win - Anna was the winner, but we all say she cheated since her Dad…

Well, since my name begins with S, I dont' show up in the b-day list anymore. But I wanted to let everyone know that a glorious day was spent looking at material. First at Buggy Barn and then later at Quilt Patch Lane. At Buggy barn, we were greeted by a new (to me) yellow lab named Riley, and her best friend, a chestnut gelding named Gus. Both were friendly and wanted to be petted, and there were lots of new things to look at inside. Found exactly what I was looking for.…

On Friday evening I played in a concert. There is a small town with a Lions Club that sponsors the Friday Night Concert Series in their small city park. And July 1st was the kickoff concert for the summer, so of course, it was all patriotic music. I included a link for some of the pictures I took with my phone. But I mostly just listened and worked sewing yo-yos. No better way to get ready for the Fourth of July!…

I will be heading home. Our high school has an all-school alumni banquet every year. Although I'm not going to the banquet this year, I always head home for the Monday traditions. The volunteer fire department hosts a free breakfast for the community with pancakes and traditional farmer's sausage. (My brothers are both volunteer firemen following in Dad's footsteps.) Then I will take Mom up to the cemetery to put flowers on the graves of relatives before the 11:00 veteran's ceremony at…

Quilting - Really, actually, quilting. Those of you in Karen's UFO group will understand that comment…LOL! Blocks have been cut, borders sewn on, and current-year students are writing their thoughts for the class quilt. Then I will be using the quilt-as-you-go technique over Memorial Day weekend to put it together. I've also been working on my clamshell quilt and have basted another section so it's ready to be sewn together, then added to the quilt-in-progress (QIP).…

I finally made the decision to have Scarface, the class rat euthanized - it was time - very old and losing his battle with cancer. We did save ashes though, so his urn is in the classroom. And for those of you with dark humor and remember the Doritos ad that ran during Super Bowl - no, we don't eat Doritos in the classroom.
I have a new bird - she's pink - (well, I don't know if it's a she, but I call her Baby.) She's a rosey bourke's parakeet and she was getting very depressed…

I couldn't figure out what I had done wrong, until I went back to my page to actually look at the link again. IT had duplicated the http:// part of the link site - which everyone knows won't work…LOL.
SO, I"ve fixed the link and anyone should be able to click on my website link and it will show a Google document of a blank spreadsheet Quilts in Progress.
Sorry for the frustration to those of you who tried to open the mixed up link. ;-)

My sister requested this from me - I created this spreadsheet years ago to try to keep track of my UFO's. I've had problems sending it to PC people since my Mac automatically converts it to Mac program.. So I saved it as a Google document and posted the link as My Website on My Page. You are more than welcome to use it, download it, alter it, whatever to fit your needs.
Please let me know if this link is working or not…LOL. (I"m not 100% sure this will work….LOL!)

I thought that when I separated the female and male gerbils that I would be done with babies.
Then I looked in my fish tank tonight and there are at least ten baby guppies swimming around! I thought that the males had killed the one female guppy, and bought five more females yesterday….LOL. Apparently, I thought wrong! She must have been hiding somewhere in the tank, just like those scarlet shrimp are always hiding.
Anyways, Happy New Year to everyone.…

I would consider it a success, since they are planning a second one already. They want to watch the Toy Story trilogy next.
Well, not everyone loved GWTW, but Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was a HUGE hit. When I opened The Blind Side DVD case, no disc - it's in my TV at home - oops. So I substituted Stand and Deliver, which they all loved. At one point I had some girls get a bit out of hand and I told them that this was movie night and if they didn't want to watch the…

One of the fundraisers we had in October netted us Volunteer Organization of the Year and $100 American Express card to spend on ourselves. So, we decided to spend the money on food for Chick Flick Movie Night (see earlier post for what that is). You should have seen the looks of mothers as they watched us pile our cart with all sorts of food....they all had smiles and were laughing. Listening to four girls decide what and how much to buy, and comparing prices, was…

Although it can be frustrating teaching teenage girls, there are some up sides too. Especially when they start experiencing oldie, but goodie, movies and then telling their friends about them. Then they all want to see them. But I can't figure out a way to fit them into the curriculum. SO, our solution? We're having a "Chick Flick Movie Night" next Friday after school until 11:00pm. (They wanted to do an all-nighter, but I can't do that and I doubt the parents would go for that, too.) The…
