Dear QWU friends, thank you for improving what is usually a low point in my year, the month of November. My sweet daughter, Jennifer, was born Nov. 9, 1970 & passed from this life on Nov. 28 1985. She suffered a cerebral hemorage so was not ill before her death. That day was also Thanksgiving day. So as you can imagine every year since 1985 the month of November is "difficult". Jennifer was spunky, petite & precocious. She attended a school for gifted children until the last 2 yrs when s…

Saturday at Quilt Festival is the craziest day, always. It's the most crowded day of the event and the loudest. The displa…

This was the best time I've had at quilt festival in years. I bought myself a rollator to help me walk around & it has…

I was super tired last night after all day at the quilt festival. I wanted to post photos of the CT friends I met at the show and I got it half right. Here's my pic of Paula and let me say she is too cute and definitely looks way too young to have a 20 yr. old son that's contemplating marriage.

I am all ready for Quilt Festival. I have made my QWU name tag and I have a list of must see vendors & their booth numbers. This is the 1st yr. I will be going for 3 days. The most I have gone in the past is 2 days. But since I don't have a job to go to I might as well enjoy myself. The show is so big it's h…

Before the internet provided thousands of fabrics in color & by manufacturer, this is how we old gals used to buy fabric by mail. You would send the catalog company a few dollars and they would send you 100's of 2 inch squares of fabric samples. You would clip half the little square & tape it to their o…

I've been reading that several of us are sorting & organizing and it's a hard task. I just can't seem to part with my older magazines. I have been working on sorting & purging them and I have many from the early 90's that I have to keep. Some of them are no longer being published; anybody heard of Ladies Circle Patchwork Quilts. I have some that have NO reference to web addresses, rotary cutters & mats or quilters retreats. I would feel like I'm throwing out quilter's history and I k…

I have just had the best fun and laughs with a new to me web site; pickledish.kcstar.com and their cartoon "Mrs. Bobbins". She is a frantic quilter with a group of guild friends that depict both the best and worst quilters traits that have a too ring of truth. Highly recommend it! Rebecca

OK, only 2 months to go! We need to make a plan. I think Saturday, Oct. 17 would be the best day to allow for the people with weekday jobs, but I will be there on Friday as well. We need a meeting place and time. I'm thinking the food court, it's usually in Hall A. We need to agree on a time and something to identify or mark the meeting site. Get your comfortable walking shoes ready ladies. Some of the vendors give out free tote bags to use to carry your goodies, and the goodies are unbelievable…

I'm out of a job! Like so many Americans lately, I have been laid off. The large corp. I worked for is centralizing their accounting and moving the work to another state. As of July 1st I am officially unemployed. I have lots of plans...clean closets, cabinets, etc. Sort fabric, wash fabric, combine fabrics for projects and rediscover fabrics in my stash. I will file for unemployment benefits from the State and post my resume on Monster, etc. The best phrase to describe my state of mind right no…

Paula & everyone who has been my support throughout this scary time: Ross is so much better. Almost 100% returned to his usual strength. He still has some weakness in his leg muscles, but his arms, grip strength & reflexes are testing normal. Even the neurosurgeon is amazed at how quickly he's recovering. The culture did come back as a variant strain of GBS. But with everyone's prayers and the fact that he lives a clean life (no alcohol, no tobacco, etc.) his return to full good health s…

I have been hesitant to post re: my son's medical condition. He is stable, which is equivalent to being better. The neurologist is now certain that it's GBS, but a very mild case. The weakness in his arms and legs is still there and he will be going to physical therapy three times a week for now. He was told that the condition could still worsen. He has a very positive attitude and his general disposition is very upbeat.
I told him that in my way of thinking a horrible disease tried to get him a…

Please pray for my son Ross! He's in the hospital today (02/24/09) for tests. He's been ill for the past few weeks and now they suspect "guillaim-barre syndrome". I'm very scared. Yes, I have faith in God and Jesus, but I am a mother who has already lost a child. Ross is my only surviving child. My daughter, Jennifer. died of a cerebral hemorage (sp) in 1985 at the age of 15. I believe in prayer! Please pray for us. PTL
