quilt kits giveaway

We are downsizing and moving.   There are 2 boxes of my quilt "kits".  Some are already pieced but need the applique, one just needs quilting, several are just fabrics that go good together.

I'll mail the boxes to a person or group who will use them for good.

City View Quilting

I bought the Connecting Threads quilt kit called City View using beautiful leafy Batik fabrics.  It went together in an impressive 4 hours max.City View Pattern Has anyone else made this and quilted it?  My first thoughts were to straight line quilt it, making kind of a grid of the windows.  That seems to clash with the leafy batik.  Yet I don't want busy quilting to obstruct the fabric design.

Has anyone had experiences they would, or wouldn't repeat quilting up this pattern?…

what furloughed workers have time to do.

It's time to clean up a few of the UFOs. Some are stuck on the shelf for a reason.

I copied the spider web pattern  a few years ago, and obviously, my printer didn't get the angles quite right, so I had to adjust a bit and not all the corners are perfect.   When I was ready  to attach the centers they became spiders with  padding and legs of  wool yarn, rick rack,…

Double wedding ring binding

Life has gotten so busy here!  I just got back my daughter's DWR from the quilter.  She was married Sept. 1, 2012.

A week later, I laid it out to decide on what to bind it with and when I stopped at the quilt store, the owner said she always does a French (fold in half) binding cut on the bias for curves. I've only done one other Double Wedding Ring and a few scalloped edge quilts and always used a bias binding that I ironed to look like bias tape- machine sewing on the front hand…

Flannel wall?

I repainted my work room recently and am getting trim put back up.  When it came time to repaint the bifold closet doors, it dawned on me they could become the flannet wall I have never had an open wall  for.

Has anyone ever made a flannel wall?  How did you attach the flannel- tightly stretched, hanging just from the top, backed  by cardboard?

I'm open to all advice.  Thanks!

Inviting new members!

The 1930's Dresden Plate, slackers style group is inviting new participants!

This  group has evolved from way back.  Our last swap was the Slackers Star exchange.  20 of us made lovely stars, exchanged them and are mostly slacking on creating the quilts from them ( really we are enjoying them…

Finished first quilt on Gracie frame!

Last spring I found a used Gracie frame and Juki machine on Craig's List. It came home but sat in pieces until winter "when we had time" to put it together. First it was my request for a Christmas present from DH. Then it became my New Year's project. The instructions that came with it didn't have the updates the frame had so I struggled with directions. DH was getting into his element constructing and didn't worry in the slightest there is a handful of hardware left over. I was getting very…

thoughts about paper piecing from a Scrapper

I think too much. While making this adorable little fill- the- corner quilt, I was thinking about why I don't like paper piecing. Now, this is not intended to rile up anyone who loves paper piecing, just my thougts. PP is kind of the anti-scrap quilt. The process- find a pattern, run to the copy shop after attempts to grid it out just don't look right. Find the fabrics. Belabor cutting the pieces off favorite fabrics. Set the sewing machine to ridiculously hard to rip out stitch length. Think… Continue

my fall quilt

I finished my little fall quilt today and can get back to thinking about all the ufos it displaced. It's hanging on my antique towel rack by the back door.

It may be the only fall color we get this year. Last week, a cold front blew into Montana from Canada and decided to stay. It was 9* this morning- burr. 'Seems like we usually get some cold and snow in October, but 9 days so far is unseasonably long. All I want to do is stoke the… Continue
