I've been without network connectivity for a couple days because of where we were at.  We've spent an awesome 2 days in Monument Valley, AZ.  Check out my blog to get caught up on our pleasures and perils.  Lots of pictures.  http://www.oddsandinns.blogspot.com/  No quilt shop yet, hoping to find one in Flagstaff.

Dispatches From The Road - our trip through the Southwest

Hello everyone.  It has been a while since I last visited.  Been very busy with work, family and some sewing.  My husband and I are currently traveling the southwest with our furthermost destination The Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.  When we travel, we try to stay at some of the more unique accommodations along the way.  Check out my blog Odds and Inns for my daily posts.  I am hoping to run across some quilt shops along…

To start a quilting business

Ladies - I need your opinions, suggestions and honest feedback.  I am 57 and anticipating the possibility of retiring within the next 5 years.  I am toying with the idea of starting a business providing sewing and quilting services.  I need to understand what would provide the most profit. I would love to have my own quilt shop, but not sure that would be financially possible.  As I only have a sewing machine (Janome) and a Janome Embroidery machine, I currently don't have the tools to do…

The Wedding was Beautiful !!!

I have been absent for a while, I was working to make a few things for my son's wedding.  The theme was "Shabby Chic".  I made 3 sets of flags, one with the applique "Mr. and Mrs.".  I  also made the Ring Bearer Pillow.   Oh by the way, this is my beautiful new daughter-in-law.  Now, my next project is to make a wall hanging using fabrics and keepsakes from the wedding.   I have…

Looking for recommendations - Embroidery machine

At some time in the near future I really would like to purchase an embroidery machine.  I currently just have a Janome straight sewing machine.  I see lots of ads for Baby Lock, but have not seen one in person.  Also, I know there are many different brands with a wide range of prices.  Does anyone have recommendations???

In search of certain fabric - HELP !!!!

I am looking for the fabric shown in the Baby Lock ad on the back of the April 2011 issue of BH&G American Patchwork & Quilting.  My son and future daughter-in-law's wedding is a yellow and blue.  The fabric shown in this ad would be perfect for some of the decorating ideas we have for the wedding.  If anyone recognizes that fabric, please let me know where I might find it.  Thanks !!!

My Quilt University Class project

I started cutting out my pieces for my class quilt.  I had purchased a couple Canterbury stacks from CT and it helped me select some of the fabric patterns to use.  This was much more difficult than I thought it would be.  Thank goodness for online fabric shopping and ordering.  I would have been in the local fabric shop all day.

Sleding in Texas

Here in Frisco, Texas yesterday we got 6 inches of snow and that was after 2 inches of ice.  This morning the temps finally got above freezing.  I saw the funniest thing.  A mother was in a field out back of some apartments pulling a laundry basket by a rope with her baby in the basket.  Since we don't see snow that much here we do with what we got to have fun in the snow.  Anyway, got out to buy fabric for my online quilting class, but just could not find what I wanted.  Couldn't get over…

The downside of working from home

From here in snowy Frisco, Texas I am still working.  The whole Dallas area has been pretty much shut down since Tuesday.  First it was 1-2 inches of ice. Then last night we got 6 inches of snow and it is still snowing.  However, those of us who consider ourselves lucky to be working from home do have a disadvantage on days like this.  With the exception of the periods of rolling blackouts, we still have our internet connection and can just work away. :-(   Personally, I'd rather be sewing…

Looking Forward to the weekend

Well all, I'm really looking forward to the weekend.  Back to work this week after a 2 week holiday.  I'm hoping to finish up an apron that was to be a Christmas present.  Then I'll be starting a quilting project which is a replica of a civil war quilt.  Oh....finish taking down the Christmas decorations.  I am having to bargain with my 3 year old grandson as to what is taken down each day.
