I just downloaded my first photo on my blog; it's of my grandchildren. Now that I've done that maybe I can add to my blog post next time; will add quilt photos. Oh! I'm so computer illiterate.

No reason for not blogging for a long while; just neglected to do so. Have been busy with autumn cleanup before the snow starts flying here in NW WI. We had a great September but Oct has been cooler with lots of rain even though we are still short 4-6 inches short (says the weatherman).
Finished my son-in-law's elk hunting quilt before he left; he was surprised and loved it. Have been cutting some projects for quilt camp in 2 weeks. Like to cut beforehand as it takes me too long and… Continue

Have not been on the site for nearly a month as we were on a fabulous vacation via van to the west coast and back---7 people in a van (me, DH, DD, DD's DH, DD's DH's DM, and 2 grandkids) for over 6200 miles. I won't bore you with the details but just a few highlights.
Redwood Forest in northern Ca; these trees dwarf anything we have here in Wi. Our van BARELY squeezed through the "drive through' tree. Amazing hike through the forest.
Gold Beach, Or we rented a townhouse on… Continue

Have not added a note for a few weeks; as everyone else, I've been busy with grandkids, gardening, quilting, etc. Have read blogs a few times but not posted.
Have finished a couple quilts. "Gummy Worms" for great-grandson; a pattern I found in Country Woman magazine. "All My Favorite Colors" for grand-daughter using Turning Twenty pattern; used all bright colored batiks. "Hope and Love" for daughter who is battling breast cancer; used pink ribbon collection fabrics. My DSL whined… Continue

Today our daughter received the pathology report from her breast lupectomy. All tissue around the cancer area is free of cancer and the cancer is not invasive. Whoopie!!!
Thank you all for your wonderful words of encouragement, prayers, etc. We all in this blog site are a wonderful group of "sisters".

The last 2 weeks have been a whirlwind with discovering our daughter has breast cancer. Last Friday she had the lumpectomy which she breezed through like she had done it before. She had local anesthetic and conscious sedation so did not have that anethesia hangover. An hour after she returned to her room she was discharged and we headed for the Olive Garden; she was starving. Since surgery she has had little if any pain; they removed a plum sized piece of breast tissue to be sure that the… Continue

God answers prayers. My daughter received the results of her breast biopsy which were good and bad. Bad first; she has cancer. Good news; it is DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ). The easiest way to explain this is the cells are contained in the duct; it is very curable with low risk for recurrence. She will have a lumpectomy on Friday; after healing occurs, she will have 6 weeks of radiation followed by Tamoxifen (oral drug) for 5 years. Since her news we have heard of several like cases who are… Continue

I just read that prayers are needed for a little 4 year old gal. My daughter needs prayers, too; she is waiting the results of a breast biopsy she had on Monday. She is 38 years old. Nearly 8 years a go we lost our son to testicular cancer. I don't know if I can do this again. I am on pins and needles today waiting for her to call. Thanks for prayers.

Edith, I received an e-mail on 4/19 stating that you added a comment to one of my posts. I can't find your comment but thank you anyway.

Last Sat was my grandson's 8th b.d. I made him a dirt bike racing quilt for his bed as he races motocross in summer. I made squares with photos of him racing, 12 in all; the fabrics are anything wild I could find and some racing ones. On the label I put "May you always be covered with love under this quilt". He loved it! When he and his Mom (my DD) put it on his bed, he talked how special it was that Nana made it special just for him; that he would use it forever even if he is 20; and that I… Continue

What a great quilting day this has been! Since I got out of bed the weather has been changing every hour it seems from snow to rain to light snow to heavy snow. Yesterday my DH was blowing leaves and today he's blowing snow. UGH! I guess that's what you get when you live as far north as you can in NW Wi. Forcast calls for more snow on Sun. This is getting to be way too much. Yesterday DH saw daffodil spears peaking through the dirt; they'll soon be peaking through the snow. I have more green in… Continue

Yesterday I received by first CT fabric order. I love it! I bought Irresistible Indigo 3 collection fat quarters plus some yardage of 4 of them for borders, etc. Now need to find time to use it.
Am quilting the eagle wall hanging I previously spoke about; it is really nice if I may say so.
Last weekend my DD and I went for a scrapbooking retreat in Chippewa Falls, Wi. Had a great time. I actually scrapbooked our wedding pics from 40 years ago; good memories. Wish I was… Continue

Well, we've had some lions here in NW Wi but today and past 3 days we've had some lambs. Today was 60 degrees which is above normal. Hooray! Brown grass is poking through around trees and where the sun hits. My DH is waiting for all the snow to melt so he can begin raking; our yard is very large as we live in the "country" on 25 acres so he uses a powerful leaf blower for much of it. But,----this is not too late for another lion to creep in even into April. Last year we had a lion the day… Continue

The blizzard passed NW of us in NW Wi; we got about 4-5 inches. Northern Mn will get the most. DH is glad so he won't have to snow blow as much. We have a blacktop driveway which is usually black in the winter as well as the summer; DH blows and scrapes till it is black; he is so anal. It's something for him to do in his first winter of retirement. One summer a local acquaintance stopped and asked DH if our driveway was heated as it is black in the winter. It was a great day of quilting; just… Continue

Snowing today; supposed to be blizzard conditions. This blew in from N Dakota and is now here in NE Mn and NW Wi. Jim Cantore from The Weather Channel was even in Duluth, Mn with weather reports for TWC. A good day to quilt. I am working on a wall hanging with flying geese star background with eagle in flight appliqued over the star. I am patriotic and my DH and I feel like eagles are messengers from our deceased son as an eagle flew over the cemetary when we buried him 7 1/2 years… Continue

Last week I happened upon a site with the neatest fabric which brought back early school memories for me; this will really date me. Those of you who are young will not even know who/what I am talking about. In first grade my reading books were about Dick, Jane, Sally, Puff, Spot, Mother, and Father; anyone out there remember them? On the site "Christa Quilts" I found Dick and Jane fabrics, many different selections from pics in the books to phrases from the books. I tho't Dick and Jane were… Continue

A couple years ago my sister gave me some vintage redwork embroidery our Mom gave to her; sis never did anything with it so passed it to me. Mom got it from her mother's home but Grandma did not do the work; I think it was a friend of Grandma and probably done in the '30's or '40's. There are about 20 pieces wrapped in an old feed sack with a printed label; I got 2 "treasures" in one. I would like to make them into a quilt or 2 or a quilt with pillow shams. Any ideas out there? Any books you… Continue

This past Friday our grandchildren spent the day with us, girl 9 y.o. and boy 7 y.o. I decided my grand-daughter should learn to sew on the machine; she was delighted. Needless to say I didn't think my grandson should also learn; he and Papa (my DH) went to see great-grandma. I started teaching her like my dear Mom taught me, my 4 sisters, and every girl who joined 4-H sewing. First, she sewed on lined paper with no thread; she soon graduated to a scrap of fabric and thread following the edge… Continue
