If any of you who read my blog posts will be in the Melbourne, Florida area August 2-30th, please stop in at the Eau Gallie Library to view an exhibit being put on by me and other members of the Dirty Dozen Fiber Artists. You can see the flyer below for more information. Hope to see you there.…Continue
I have finished the karate painting of my twin granddaughters. All that's left to do is sign it, and spray sealer on it and then send it off in the mail.
Thanks everyone for all the wonderful comments as it progressed. I have started drafting the picture for doing it as a thread painting. Once I get it started, I'll post its progress.…Continue
I have been working on the karate painting of my twin granddaughters for a little while now. It is only the second portrait painting I have done and will be glad when I really paint faces without it taking weeks to get them to look human!
I still have a little tweaking to do and them I'm going to call it done! My next step will be to start drafting the thread painting and/or art quilt I hope to do using the painting as a guide. Must say this was fun to do as I love the bright colors…Continue
It's funny how another birthday puts things in perspective and you look back on just how good life has been. Yes, there have been dramatic ups and downs and some things I wish could turn out different, but all and all, life has been good.
Today I went to a painting class and was surprised by an unexpected birthday party from the instructor and shared by people that enjoy creating art as much or more than I do. It was a wonderful day. We spent 4 hours creating a painting that looks so…Continue
The painting of my twin granddaughters karate picture is slowly progressing and I'm liking how it is coming together. The more I look at it, the more I want to do it as a thread painting and am looking at how I want to undertake that challenge. I may have to make it a little larger than the 16" x 20" that is its current size to really be able to give it the detail that I want.
Thanks to all who have been very encouraging about my art work.…Continue
I have started a new painting of my twin granddaughters doing their karate. Liking the way it is coming together and may do it as a thread painting.
I have finished the Dream Scape fiber art; however, the picture below has the sharks cut off, so will have to redo that picture. Also did a painting that I plan on making into a fiber art piece and have put that one below.…Continue
I have made some progress on my project. Have been adding details, which is slow going as I am hand sewing on the details in some parts. The little sea anemones have been sculpted with the tops done in thread. They will be painted once everything is assembled. I have a little sea horse that I need to paint and attach as well.…Continue
I have started a new project which has been inspired by a dream that just would not let go. It has been the same dream over the past 3 days, SO decided creativity was trying to get me moving. It is being done on a 26x30 canvas, will be a fiber art piece and the background has been painted in acrylics. When all is said and done, it will contain fabric, threads, 3-D effects, beads and who knows what else will be added.
This is the start and the lion-fish is done in trupunto and then…Continue
My creative spurt seems to be growing. While trying to think of where I want to go with the needle felted/thread painting project, I have created a few paintings and have been working on a thread painting. The two paintings are in acrylics and are of a sea turtle and a winter scene called garden gate. The thread painting I've entitled Spirit Wolf and has really been a challenge to work on, albeit a very enjoyable challenge.
May your creative juices flow and many enjoyable hours pass…Continue
Don't know whether trying out for a play or just feeling creative, but started a new fiber art project today. When this is completed, it will contain thread painting, needle felting, applique and fabric painting. Hoping to get it completed for an upcoming display of fiber art. If I like the way it turns out, I may even attempt to enter it into a show.…Continue
Think I'm going to leave this alone for a while until the painting tells me the next way to go. Not totally happy with the sky or the moon rise, but it's getting there. Need to do a little more with the water in way of shadowing and work on the splash. I thought about putting in another dolphin; however, with the way the current one is situated, to add another would be too crowded. Perhaps one at a later date.
I do appreciate all the comments and input, it is very helpful.…Continue
I have worked a little more on the painting. Still have to work on the dolphin, the splash of water and adding the ripples. It still needs something, but can't quite put my finger on it. Oh well, it will come when its ready to.
My DH decided I needed to get the creative juices flowing so he brought in my easel from the garage and we went shopping for paints, new brushes and canvas. Right now I'm dabbling in acrylics and currently have a partial painting in the works. Letting it dry while I figure where to go with it. While I'm not thrilled with how it looks at the moment, I am pleased that I am at least painting and sketching. I can see that I've got to do something on the shadowing as I've gotten it much too dark,…Continue
Tonight a dear friend/family member and I had a little girls night out and went to a painting free style class. It was a lot of fun and, surprisingly, we were able to do a complete painting in 2 hours time. Had a ball and it was nice to just kick back and relax doing something I thoroughly enjoy. It's been a long time since I've painted anything.
This is Josie with her completed painting.…Continue
Until I can get these ocular migraines under control and, hopefully, the visual disturbances that seem to go with them, I am only able to doodle and sketch rather than sew. Haven't sketched in a long while and the two posted below were faces that came out of dreams. Not sure what to make of it, if anything. Any how, they are what they are. Think I will look into seeing if there are any art classes around that deal in drawing people. I have been doing the doodles freehand with an ink brush…Continue
Guess my darling hubby and I must be getting too big for our britches and needed a wakeup as to what is important in life. LOL. Last Friday we went to the gym and met with our individual personal trainers for the second week of our "going to get healthy, do it right, or bust" mantra for the new year. Now keep in mind that we have been going to the gym off and on for the past two years we've been here in Florida and all without a problem. Ray has gone more than I have due to my spinal surgery…Continue
There's an old saying that whatever you do on the first day of the new year is what you will be doing the whole year! I certainly hope this is not true or I am in BIG trouble! LOL.
Right before Christmas, I was put into the hospital with what they thought was a heart attack, "I" knew it wasn't but since I don't have all those letters after my name, no one would listen to me. I ended up being there a week. Had a stress test, which I failed miserably as well as having a bad reaction to…Continue
First I have to say I wish I could wrap the world in a big Thanksgiving Hug and end all the problems we are seeing happening all over the world. Alas, I have no magic wand and will have to content myself doing what I can to make a difference.
I am so thankful for family, yes, that includes my pain-in-the-butt sister. Hopefully, one day and with God's help, she'll see what she has done and will change. Hey, I still believe in Santa Clause so there's hope, right! I will get to see my…Continue
I have finally been able to work on some creative endeavors. Thought I would post a few pictures, nothing earth shattering, just being glad to be able to do something positive for a change.
I was able to finish a UFO that I had started in 2002. When my husband, Frank, passed away, I had put it aside. Now seemed like a good time to finish it. I did the quilting on my new mid-arm and was surprised at just how quickly it seemed to get finished. The picture is before I put the binding on…Continue
