May I have a drum roll please <ratatataeateaetas> The winners of theDrake's Nest Studios guess the number of tubs AND mention the September 18th opening date in your email are:
BJ Elder for date AND being closest to the number of tubs. She guessed 47 and the actual number was 48.
Gayle/LA for guessing 88 tubs. I just had to award her something as my DH said it FELT like 188 tubs he carried <LOL>.
So ladies, if you will send me your…Continue
Today I spent the entire day, along with my DH, unpacking the last of the 5-gallon tubs from the attic loft. My DH is such a wonderful person in that he toted all the tubs from the loft to the studio (guess the total number of tubs and win a prize) in 90 degree heat! Bless his heart and then he took me shopping for an adjustable sewing stool as he felt my chair just wasn't high enough AND we purchased another 4-drawer filing cabinet for the studio! Thank should take care of…Continue
I must say that yesterday - Wednesday - was quite the eventful day. I did a demonstration at the Besser Museum in Alpena, Michigan of making pine needle baskets using 1/4 of a walnut shell! It was quite entertaining and a wonderful experience. Of course the way it started off was NOT so nice as a woman almost ruined my whole "good" experience by crushing a basket BEFORE the foundation layer was secured. But live and learn and no harm, no foul, just a lot of reworking and redoing, but all…Continue
In just a few days time, the Drake's Nest Studios will be celebrating it's grand opening! Can you say Happy Dance!! This is well ahead of the fall schedule I had anticipated. The last of the book shelves was put into place, the work table had its last coat of policrylic, the top for the lazy Susan cabinet is ready to be put on and it's top sealed and the cabinets are ready to be mounted. Over the next few days, I will be moving armoires from the pole barn storage into the studio and cleaning…Continue
Ta da dada Ta dada dada! Ta da dada Ta dada DA!! Da dadadadadadadadada ... Well you get the general idea <LOL> I am doing a happy dance as the very last section of the ceiling was completed at 7 pm this evening! Wheeeeee!!!! That means that the cabinets can be mounted to the wall and the top put on the corner floor cabinet and stained/sealed. The work station will be bolted together, the end plates put on and then the top is going to be glued in place and it then will be sealed. Once…Continue
Well, yesterday the base cabinets that will turn into a work station were delivered. They are now back to back in the center of the room with a 4 ft x8 ft - 3/4 inch piece of red oak plywood sitting on their tops. The small cabinets have been stained and one of the base cabinets. Rather than putting on side paneling (which always comes off), I'm using some of the ceiling paper to put on the sides to help make it look like a built in and give the illusion of being somewhat recessed, I hope.…Continue
WOW, I can't believe how fast this is coming together. I'm so excited about being able to start organizing my studio that I feel like the kid in the backseat of the car. Instead of "Are we there yet?", I'm afraid it's "Is is done yet?"! <LOL> I have 1 little corner to finish putting the ceiling paper up and then all of that is finished except for mounting the cabinets and moving in furniture that's in storage. New cabinets/furniture will be…Continue
