With the news that my 96-year old MIL is now out of the hospital, out of rehab and heading home, we are hoping that better times are ahead! Approximately 3 months ago she had a slight stroke, then in September she fell and broke her hip and had to undergo surgery. That went fine and 2 days later she developed an intestinal infection that almost did her in. She has made a full recovery and everyone is truly amazed. When the doctor's told her she was a "miracle," her response was "when you…Continue
Today is/was Father's Day and it started out being a bit rough as the realization that I would no longer have my dad around. I also knew how hard this day is on my DH as he lost his only child, his/our son Bart, 2 months before his dad and I were married. After church today, we were invited to the home of our adopted Granddaughters and I was so glad we went. The girls made a big fuss over DH and made him Father's Day cards. After lunch, we all went to a Nail Salon to get manicures and…Continue
It was hard enough learning of my dad's passing and then learning that my brother and I were the last to know. I was told by my cousin, calling from my sister's home where my dad had passed, that there would NOT be a funeral, memorial or celebration of his life as he did not want that and wanted to be cremated. We could live with that. Then I learned from a cousin in Michigan on Thursday that there was going to be a celebration of my dad's life at my sister's on Saturday (yesterday). I…Continue
Today, a heroic veteran who served in Korea and in Germany in WWII, lost a long hard battle with Alzheimers. He went on his terms, in his sleep, in his own home. My dad was 85 and always had a zest for life. He was devastated when his only sister passed quickly away from this horrid disease that robs memories of family and loved ones from those who are afflicted with it. Little did he know that he himself would fight the same monster.
He battled for years, was in and out of hospital…Continue
After all that we have gone through over the past few months, I can finally do a happy dance -- albeit carefully as I'm still recovering from a double cervical fusion. All DH biopsy and lab results came back negative for acute leukemia. We will have to keep an eye on his levels as he may have chronic leukemia, which is treatable and moves extremely slowly. Prayers were answered on that one!
Our former home in Michigan settled on Tuesday and a young couple, well younger than ME, has…Continue
Yesterday I sent my DH off to the gym while I puttered around the house and trying to get some things done before my surgery next week. Needless to say, I have not gotten a whole lot done as I really can't seem to concentrate on a whole lot these days. While taking a break, the phone rang and it was the doc from the cancer center in Orlando. Suffice it to say, my heart went into my throat and I quickly sat down in a chair prepared for the worst.
The doc told me that he had all the…Continue
Seems like the lemonade just gets a little tarter these days. DH's bone marrow test was canceled a few hours before we were due to arrive at the doctor's. Luckily, we were home when the office called to tell us that the doc had an emergency and the test will be rescheduled at our local hospital. Not sure when that will be. In the meantime, we were phoned by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Orlando and he is now scheduled to see a doc there on the 31st of this month. Not sure if this is…Continue
I grew up with an old saying that when life deals you lemons then you make lemonade. Okay, that works, to a point and right now it's not working AT ALL for me. Warning - rant to follow.
This past weekend we were notified by our neighbor in Michigan (who is keeping an eye on our home that we have for sale there) that a hot water pipe had exploded in the 2nd bathroom off the kitchen. Okay, she found it right after it happened so not a big deal, or so we thought. We had lived in that…Continue
Things sure have been crazy since our move to Florida. Lots of events have happened that I wish could be changed, but, alas, cannot. Such as the death of my dear nephew at too early an age and the news that my dad is close to ending his battle with Alzheimer's. While I morn the loss of the nephew and my dad's loss of memory, I can celebrate the life they have lived and am thankful for the way they have touched my life.
For the most part, in general, life is good. We are enjoying the…Continue
I had posted earlier that I had 2 nephews, my brother's sons, who were electrocuted and fell 3 stories in a construction accident. One nephew has finally succumbed to his injuries. He shed his mortal coils at 6:52 p.m. this evening for angel's wings. What organs that can be used will be donated to those need them.
On behalf of my brother, his family and mine, thank you all for your prayers and messages of encouragement and hope. The surviving son was with his father and brother when…Continue
Yesterday I was given the news that my brother's son's had met with a tragic accident on a construction job site. They had been electrocuted and feel 3 stories off a ladder. The electricity had passed through one brother into the other and literally BLEW them off the ladder and out of their shoes. The oldest had been declared brain dead late yesterday afternoon and disconnected from life support and the other has no memory of the event. To top things off, I was also notified that my father,…Continue
Early this morning I went to have the injection done to cervical area of my spine. I am NOT impressed with the doctor who did it. For one, he just saw me last week and told ME that I would be given sedation for the procedure AND I told HIM I had a problem with certain forms of iodine. When I saw him this morning, NONE of that information was on the chart that the "nurse" anesthetist was going over. They had to FIND a special antibacterial to use. The doc comes in an looks at the chart and…Continue
Well, after some horrendous missteps caused by the bank, we finally closed on our new Florida home and are slowly settling in. The settlement was supposed to have been on Monday (July 29) but due to a bank oversight, they "discovered" a document they didn't know they had (had it since May and they HAD requested it) and this we found out when we were getting gas on the Ohio/Kentucky border! After having major meltdown, and some fast typing on the internet - thank heavens for smart phones - we…Continue
Let's see, where to begin ... okay, got up out of bed at 7 a.m. this morning, first mistake, should have stayed IN bed, LOL. Received call from moving company, truck will be dropping off the trailer between 2 and 5 today. Good gives me more time to get things done. Sent hubby on errands and to pick up scripts. So far, so good.
Hubby comes home with 1 script - wrong item, something I've never taken, wasn't discussed and was NOT what I had asked doc to give script for and where are the…Continue
Let's see, I was in bed by 2 a.m. and up by 7 a.m. to try to get the house in a "presentable" enough condition that the realtor could take pictures for the house listing. I used up the LAST of the tubs (242 to be precise) and stuffed numerous duffle bags, with items to avoid going back to Walmart to purchase yet MORE tubs. LOL.
We walked the property with her showing her with our boundaries are, showing her the pond, the out buildings and my studio. Unfortunately, she has to wait…Continue
I must say that our last two days in Florida were certainly busy and amusing. My hubby and I both love to people watch. The human race can sometimes be highly entertaining and, at the same time, can be very sad and thought provoking. While sitting in a social security office in Florida, we watched, unobtrusively, the people going and coming. A white supremist came in and sat down between a black couple and a Hispanic couple. His tattoos declaring what he believed in was there for all the…Continue
Well, made it to Florida on June 2nd after taking 2 days to get here. Drove through heavy rains, fog and crazy drivers from Ohio to Florida. Drove through some crazy towns, such as Big Bone Lick, SC or Stinky Creek, GA. Can't help but wonder WHERE they came up with these names. My favorite was Coosalachiwhachi! LOL.
After celebrating my birthday on Monday, we began searching for a new home. The last one we ended up walking away from due to some important information not being…Continue
Aloha from beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii! Yuppers, that's what I said, Hawaii!! We are here for 13 days - 10 on Ohau and 3 on Hilo. While this may be paradise, beautiful white, black, pink sandy beaches, turquoise blue and emerald green waters with cotton candy whispy clouds, it is extremely expensive here. For example a simple drink like pina colatta is $15 or try a bowl of oatmeal for $10! So we go looking for the least expensive places to eat and most of the things we like to do are…Continue
Well surgery is done and prognosis is great. As a matter of fact I am way ahead of the game in the recovery area. Stitches out, emobilizer/restraint removed and shoulder, other than very sore and tender, is moving well. Had bad scare in recovery in that they almost could not bring me out of the paralizing (sp) agent they put in with the anestetic so that you don't move during surgery. They had to intubate me twice (put breathing tube down my throat) as I could not breathe. Scared the bejesus…Continue
Hope all have recovered from turkey day and Black Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Cyber Monday! Phew! My fingers are tired from all that walking. LOL.
Went to see the orthopedic surgeon today for results of MRI and will be having surgery on Feb. 1st to remove some floating bone spurs, attached spurs, clean up some fraying on muscles/tendons and repair what appears to be several tears in and around the rotator cuff. At least now I have answers and pretty sure that this will…Continue
