I have a pile of these beautifully worked Dreden Plates that will finish at 16". They were appliqued to muslin feed sacks. Some of the muslin still has faint printing on them. It is quite sturdy (if I can use that as a descriptor) muslin. The blocks are a little musty and smudged from storage and time. Before I trimmed them, some had the old seam holes from where they were stitched into sacks in their previous life. I bought them on ebay at a shamefully low price, so I don't know…Continue
This is what I decided to do with the baby quilt - mostly because of fabric availability and crunch time. I appreciated all who commented and gave suggestions. I made notes for next time. I think it would have looked nice with a dark border as well. I was using up scraps and made do with what I had.
Stats: 8" blocks. 1" inner border, 3" outer border. Machine quilted - domestic machine - in the ditch. Cotton batt. This has been washed and dried. I don't prewash my fabrics…Continue
Here is the Hunter's star layout, before it was completely put together. I like the balance.
The blocks finish at 8", so as is, this measures 32 x 40. Question: Is that big enough for a baby quilt? I tend to make mine a little larger. I'd feel better if this were 40 x 48, but I am not going to make 10 more blocks. (Next time I'll know to make it a 5 x 6…Continue
This is the train quilt that was a work-in-progress for FAR too long. It is in its new home with GS#1 who loves it. I don't know if you can tell from the pictures, but I used the alphabet feature on my machine to stitch "Rail Road Crossing" in the cornerstones. It fits with the railroad tracks sashing. …Continue
Here is a sample of what has been put together on my design wall so far on the baby Quilt. I'll rearrange blocks for color balance and variety when all the blocks are made, but I'm liking it so far. The arrowhead blocks are 8" finished.
Too cheap to buy a pattern and didn't like the freebie method for this block for this particular quilt and the fabrics I'm using. However, next time I might be tempted to just go with that one. It would be much easier than what I have resorted to doing - templates. After a lot of math frustration and several block sample fails, templates seemed to be the way to go for this block to get the look I want. This will be a baby quilt, so not many blocks. I'm kind of excited about the…Continue
