Question for needle turn applique-ers

When making circle or oval shapes, do you needle turn them or use the starch/template/press method (starch the fabric, gather it around a heat resistant circle/oval template and press)?  I've been needle turning a larger oval-shaped piece and seem to do all right until the last few stitches.  Can't seem to make that as smooth as I'd like.  It tends to want to make a small bump or point.  Since this is more of a folksy piece, it really isn't too big of an issue, but I would like to know the…

A huge fan of QWU.

I don't post very often anymore, but I just want to give Connecting Threads a huge thumbs up for starting this social network for quilters.  I love seeing the quilts on the slide show and participating in the small group forums.   My life has been enriched by the friendships I've found here, not to mention the knowledge gained because others have been willing to share so unselfishly.  Thanks so much, CT.  I'm one of your biggest fans.

Playing catch up...

Finally a moment to catch my breath and post at least one long overdue photo.  This is the graduation quilt made for my niece.  She is attending Black Hills State University in S.Dak. this fall.  I'm sorry it is a little blurry.  I'm not the greatest photographer of my quilts.
