It's only fitting that Mother Nature has the last laugh on us - snowing right now and about 6-10 inches will fall by Saturday pm.
I have not been on this site for a while. Though I retired, it seems that there are less hours to do the normal daily chores. When was the last time I thoroughly cleaned the house - let me see, when did I have some company? Can't remember.
Anyways, I'm still quilting. I now belong to a local quilt guild, and have volunteered to help out with…Continue
For those of you within driving distance to Manchester, NH, there is a quilters' gathering show going on at the Radisson Hotel, until Sunday, November 8th.
Beautfiul quilts are on display, vendors from New England offer great merchandise.
For details, please see attached,Quilters Gathering
I just joined the Amoskeag Quilters Guild this summer, and already had attended the monthly meetings, in which there is…Continue
Quilting put into hiatus for now, too hot in my sewing room. I do have an air conditioner in there and can turn it on, but...if I decide to cut fabrics, I have to turn on the bright light so I can see what I'm cutting, then I have to turn on the 1700-watt iron so I can press the pieces, then turn on the Janome Horizon to start sewing, along with my Nook to listen to music. I then have everything running and voila! a short-circuit on the entire half of the…
On Memorial Day, we remember and give thanks to all our fallen members of the Armed forces, may their ultimate sacrifices never be forgotten. And to our men and women who have answered the call to service, may you all be safe from harm, and Thank you for everything you do to bring peace to our world.
on the fourth Sunday of February, we got more SNOW...
This past week has been a sort of see-saw weather; it was cloudy and cold, and quite dismal. On Wednesday the sky opened up and gave us a torrential rain, why here in New England and not in California! Then I learned on the news that it was a Northeaster - which usually gives us 24-36 inches of snow when it comes during winter. At least the rain didn't accumulate, although the brooks and streams are really flowing this time. Gotta love New England weather, it's still kind of warm that…Continue
It's the first week of September and by now the temperature should be down to almost 60's; instead we're having a heat wave! With the air conditioner(s) going full blast, I can't sit down on my sewing machine, afraid that I would overload the circuit. What to do...I wish I could store up the heat for the coming wintry days.
For the past few weeks (months?) I hinted to DH that I would like to set the quilting frame up so I can quilt all the UFO's that have accumulated these past 4 years. So while I was gone to my Jazzercise class yesterday he tackled the setup. After a few hours of hunting for all the missing pieces, it was finally up. He brought down the sewing machine and then I proceeded to put the leaders on the frame. I am a leftie, when I look at the directions I try to do a mirror image so as to get…Continue
Yuck, I got stung by a hornet today while helping DH repair the shed. It's so reminiscent of that incident from 2 years ago where I was stung by a bunch of wasps. I must have used up 2 cans of that wasp and hornet killer spray to drive them away from the shed. Thankfully, I didn't get any allergic reaction this time. I guess that's the downside of warm weather, all the bugs come out and attack mercilessly. I dare not go deeper into the shed to look for that screened gazebo we have,…Continue
Finally, the temps have gone up a notch, no winds, just a gentle breeze to drive the bugs away.
I have a sewing room where I go in hiding whenever I want peace and quiet. However, these past few days I find myself watching old movies on Netflix so I brought my hand sewing downstairs to watch the shows on TV instead of on the Nook. Abigail, my cat, only sits on DH's lap and naps there. But last night, as I made myself comfortable, with remote nearby, a cup of hot tea, and my applique project, up jumped black Abigail on my lap, settled herself between my legs and proceeded to sleep,…Continue
The strawberry and flower helps speed up spring.
It's 33°F as of 2:30 pm. Took out snowshoes and went out in the backyard, following the railroad track with DH and puppy. An hour later, one very tired puppy and one napping husband! I'm sure I'd feel the effects this evening, my thighs and butt were burning from all that effort.
It's 10 days into the new year, and I just finished quilting and binding a Connecting Thread Cheep Talk quilt I started 3 years ago - wow, 1 down and 10 more to go. I figure if I work on finishing one project a month I should get them all done, right? Well, I just started a Hawaiian quilt block, one of 12 blocks that I will make for my own quilt which I promised myself this year. Then there is a king-size quilt I have yet to start for DD (I did promise her a quilt 10 years ago). And the…Continue
Well, it's winter time, and winter without snow is like, summer without humidity. So the snow comes down and causes havoc. But it's also good - freezes out all the germs in the air, and now I can breathe again. So in celebration of snow days, I finally finished a blue work embroidery ...Snow Happens...Continue
I am sure you all have read about the disaster (Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda) that just occurred in the Philippines. Thankfully I don't have relatives in the areas that were devastated, but lots of my friends have families in those provinces. If you would like to help, the best thing I recommend is to find a Filipino community within your own towns & states and offer help - be it used clothings, personal necessities, etc. Monetary help is always welcome, I suggest you contact your local Red…Continue
My daughter discarded this t-shirt long time ago and was in the rag bin. I pulled it out, and the idea-bulb lighted up! It must over 12 years old, full of stain and ripped at some places, but the back of the t-shirt was in good shape, so... another project done!
Being of short stature, I use thick padded cushions on my chairs so as to add a few inches height in order to be comfortable when dining or doing any work that requires resting my 'duff'.
The cushions have somewhat thinned out (thanks to a 200+ DH), and stained after so many years of use. I figure I could wait till the cushions are on sale at either Walmart or K-Mart, but then I realized I have upholstery fabric remnants that I bought years ago when I thought I was going to lose my…Continue
How do you explain to a dog that her favorite playmate is moving? Our neighbor is moving to another town; funny, but Bianca knows the sound of his car, and around 3:30 she asks to go the door. Sure enough, 10 minutes later, our neighbor and his dog would come through the back woods, and the dogs would play for 10-15 minutes while us humans talk a bit.
The past few days Bianca would look at me, and go to the door around 3 pm, so I let her out. She goes to the back yard expecting…Continue
