Hi Everyone,
This is a hard thing to announce, but Karen and I thought it was best that you all know what's going on. Yesterday Karen Johnson, the Connecting Threads VP, and several other staff members from other divisions of our parent company were laid off. Until now Connecting Threads has been able to resist cutbacks, but the economy finally caught up with us. I'm sure you or someone you know has been affected by this, so you know how hard it can be.
Karen will still be an…

Many of you have noticed the increase of spam in the past week, and some particularly unsavory stuff this weekend. I'm so sorry! I've increased the new member security level yet again, but unfortunately that means brand new people have to jump through even more security hoops to join. I've found this past week's spammers were particularly aggressive and not computer generated (or they wouldn't be able to get past our security points).
Some of you actually received an email from…

You probably noticed our little facelift - new staff photos, new header and logo, etc. But have you noticed our new
Connecting Threads Staff blog, Notions? Our QWU community serves our members well, but it's sometimes difficult to see what's going on with Connecting Threads because this is such an active community. Nothing will change with QWU - all the same features. But beginning today, all CT staff…

The gardens were incredible, as expected. The weather was fabulous - 66 and sunny - couldn't have asked for a better day. We took it slowly, rested a lot and saw every square inch of the place. I had been a little concerned about going so late in the season, but there was plenty to see. The only area that was skimpy was the Rose Garden, but whatareyagonnado?
We had a lovely Afternoon Tea for lunch - they said it was nice for a "light lunch" - well the stuff was light, but when you add…

Here we are in lovely downtown Victoria! Our hotel was a wonderful surprise, you never know until you get there. I booked a killer deal from Expedia in a boutique hotel and it's a fabulous room with a huge patio deck on the 10th floor. We can see the Empress, the Parliment Bldg, the harbor and the sound - and there is SUN!!!!! I almost forgot what it looked like! I took pictures for you, but forgot my camera cord - they'll have to wait.
So yesterday was the 4 1/2 drive from Portland to…

I'm signing off for a couple of days - I'm playing tour guide for my mom and our friend Carol. Both have been wanting to see the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, BC for many years and I'm playing fair godmother and granting their wish! I've been many times and love the trip....4 hrs drive to a ferry, then a pretty ferry ride right into the Harbor of downtown Victoria. And there is supposed to be a break in the rain too!
I'll take lots of pics and share them next week.
Went to…

This week I demonstrate using muslin as your base for foundation piecing. My personal favorite, Crazy Quilt blocks, work really well with the extra layer of fabric so it can hold all those heavy embellishments later. You can also use this method for strippy style quilt blocks. Both are excellent ways to use up…
