Thank you all for the well wishes! I'm still just kinda sitting around -- but at least I have the two cats and the silly dog to keep me company. We're all hanging out in the lower level of the house, stayin' cool and stayin' outta trouble.
I'm not seeing much improvement at this point, but I am still at the start of the physical therapy. I'll probably need a flow chart to adequately explain this, but my younger daughter's best friend's mom is going to be doing most of the…Continue
... but my summer vacation is now on hold.
I tore my Achilles tendon (a LONG time ago, in a galaxy far, far away) and it started acting up about 4-5 months ago. I finally was able to get in to see a specialist today and I am now wearing one of those huge boot-casts. I even have a special one to sleep in. And I start physical therapy tomorrow morning. So I am stuck in the lowest level of the house, and am totally hoping that the physical therapy will help me avoid having…Continue
I am thinking that I have finally gotten a grip on things -- or at least caught my breath for a while. This year has been one major challenge after another, and I felt like I lost myself in the midst of it all. There are still some hurdles to get over, but I'm seeing them for what they are, and they're "do-able" now.
My younger daughter was home from college for almost two weeks, and the girls had a terrific visit! They have both done some growing up this year, and it was nice to…Continue
Sorry about that. The tornado was about 5 miles away, in Leesburg. The dog and cats were all freaked out, we kept having brief power spurts, and since I don't have a surge protector, I didn't chance going back online and getting my computer fried. I have internet access here at the hotel, so I thought I'd catch up...
I did see some tornado damage along I-95 in North Carolina. It was pretty severe in places, and caused back-ups for at least 10 miles in one spot where the debris…Continue
It is time for Spring Break and Sophie the dog and I are hitting the road tomorrow!
She's a terrific travel partner, and we're heading to Florida to spend some time with my mom. Yes, sometimes the dog makes me nuts, but she's actually a sweet dog -- who just likes to talk a lot. If she finds me on my cell phone, she starts barking and barking... and when I hang up, she stops!
The girl across the street is going to take care of the cats for me. Her dad is one of my…Continue
I've missed everyone -- and hope that I can start participating in here again on a much more regular basis! It's been a month since I've posted in here...
Partly, it's been a mix of too much professional responsibility. I've been working very hard to get some of my "reluctant learners" back on track, which has meant writing totally new lessons and readjusting the course schedule. I've also been taking a professional development course, which also takes up a lot of…Continue
*sigh* I did it again! I am hoping that I can find a better balance in my life. Lately, my own needs seem to come in last, with school taking up most of my time. I was up the other night until almost midnight so I could rework a lesson for my 9th graders; so many are not ready for the readings I have used in the same course for years now, so I wrote a new PowerPoint to cover the material.
I've gotten a number of papers read for…Continue
Here's today's post:
True friends can see the hurt in your eyes when everyone else is fooled by your smile.
Isn't that the truth?
Sometimes they can hear it in your voice, too. And they know exactly what to say, even if it's nothing at all...
I'm just too plain wiped out to do much grading this evening, and so I think I'll make a nice dinner and then watch some…Continue
My daughter Allison pulled out this saying today:
If I had a dollar for every time you make me smile... I'd be rich.
And then she says, "Fork it over, Mom!"
Too funny! She's had her ups and downs medically for such a long time, and to see her happy and healthy right now is a major treat. So we baked…Continue
... because my cellphone was in the box, underneath all the composition books, after all! I think I mentioned that I did have my wallet stolen once, and it was a major disappointment (not to mention a hassle!)... I can just let the whole thing go now, and make sure that I am more careful with things like that! It was weird how it got underneath everything ... since I had dropped it in on top. But I'm not going to think about that now!
So we're back with the different…Continue
Sorry for the gap in posts, but I'll be honest. Until Friday, it was because I had all kinds of grading to do for the end of the semester. For seniors, the grades have to be accurate, because their grades are sent to the colleges they are applying to; we can't make any corrections or changes.
Then on Friday afternoon (after being at work for 10 hours), I couldn't find my cellphone. I looked in the box that I had taken grading home in the night before, because I put a bunch of…Continue
Sophie was not happy that Allison went with me to school this morning. She (the dog!) has separation anxiety, and I guess it could have been worse -- well, it could always be worse! -- but she decided to get into my jar with the scraps of paper that the messages are written on. I don't know how she was able to get the tight-fitting lid open, but she did... and mixed up all of the messages! I think I've found most of the ones I've already posted, but there are a few more of them lurking in…Continue
Here's today's message, and I think it's what BJ was saying here yesterday:
Friend to Friend... I'm so glad we have each other!
This is especially true when you're having one of those days where you're not quite sure where things are heading.
Like tonight. Sophie (the dog) is acting weird, and I think it's because the weather is…Continue
Well, "catch-up" that is! The consensus is to share the daily messages from when they started, on my birthday! So here they are:
6th: "You can't wrap love in a box, but you can wrap a person in a hug." -- Very appropriate for a birthday, don't you…Continue
As some of you might know, I turned 50 years old a few weeks ago. It's actually neither here nor there for me -- I think age is an attitude, not a number! But my younger daughter thinks it's cool that I'm now "half way to 100" and she wanted me to have a special present this year.
She had a jar sent to me,…Continue
