Question for all - my friend is wanting to get a rotating cutting mat while they are on sale at CT. She was wondering if the 12" one is sufficient or if it is worth paying the extra for the 17" one. What is your experience? My thought was that you couldn't trim a 12" block on the smaller one but I don't often make blocks that large, they are most frequently 8 inches.
Thanks for your help!

Hi, does anyone have a review on a rotary blade sharpener? The blades are really expensive here so I was wondering if they did a good job or not.
Thanks in advance!

I woke up waaaaaaay too early this morning and in my boredom, I came across this really interesting way to make your kitchen or dining room into a machine quilting table:
Basically you build a new leaf for your kitchen table, but include a dropped box for your machine so your quilts have plenty of… Continue

Good morning everyone!
I was thinking about how much I HATE cotton blouses this morning as I was ironing up a nice white cotton blouse for work today and then since my iron is right beside my sewing area I started thinking about how much I love to fondle my cotton for quilting. I don't mind ironing when I'm piecing but really don't like ironing clothes. Hmmmm... do I need a shrink to work through this or do I have QWU friends that are like-minded?
Have a great day

I wish you all a very happy mother's day. Here's a reminder of how precious every moment is with your family:http://www.edmontonjournal.com/health/Every+moment+precious/3001418/story.html
The article is about my friend Tamara and her family on her last Mother's day today. I always called her a 'firecracker' because she was so energetic and lively. She will be dearly missed by so many… Continue

Well we are moved into a rental house - our house sold on our second day of vacation in Florida. Good thing we had gone through everything and had half of it already packed up. My super-duper sister-in-law found us this rental house so we could keep on having fun in the sun and not worry too much. We had an absolutely great vacation, returned home on April 11 and moved on April 16/17. That gave me a few extra days to clean up the old house and the new owners took possession on the 23rd.… Continue

I was reading the latest American Quilter magazine (very inspiring!) and thought I would share some fabulous contests with you. I can't enter myself since I don't live in the U.S. but send good vibes to my Quilt With Us friends who can enter. Go to the website www.AmericanQuilter.com and you'll see the Hinterberg contest (entire longarm setup) and the Hobb's contest (tons of batting). They are both giving away trips to the Paducah Quilt Show as… Continue

I decided to focus on finishing projects rather than starting new ones (gasp!). I completed my angel wall hanging, pretty happy with the way that one turned out. I also finished the binding on a little practice quilt that I will give to my niece. I wanted to try that quick and easy pattern and do a little more free motion quilting. There was a whole lot of talking, not too much sewing, but it really got me back in the swing of things and eager to do more quilting. I have… Continue

I'm heading out shortly to go to my friend's house to sew (and have a little wine) for the evening. Since she lives on the other side of the city, we're making it a sleepover! I think the last time I slept at her place for a sleepover was when I was about 8 years old and she was 10. Time flies but it's sure nice to have friends that you can pick up with whenever you have time to spare. We were planning on spending the evening from 6-12 pm at the local quilt shop in a 'sew behind' class but they… Continue

Oops! I bought a really nice pattern at the sewing/quilting show this weekend and thought it was just regular piecing and appliqué but it turns out that many of the blocks use paper piecing. I guess I'll be learning this new technique (with a few hints from my wonderful friends here) once I start working on it. I have several projects already on the go and want to also work on some Christmas wall hangings so I won't likely get this started until the new year. I'm going to see if there's a group… Continue

This is NOT the kind of help I'd like putting in 700 pins! He thought I was on my hands and knees solely to give him attention!
