Bunting Pillow and Sampler Giveaway!!

I am not a very experienced sewist, but when I saw this Bunting Pillow Cover on CraftZine.com by Cicada Daydream, I NEEDED to make one out of a Bold Sampler. It was just too cute to resist.

I was slightly intimidated by the pattern, so I enlisted the help of my friend Jenny. Together we cut 12 little flags and pressed each one. The pattern had 15 flags, but I was using a smaller pillow from Ikea as a pillow form, so I could only fit 12. I pinned everything in place, and then we started sewing it up. We were sewing at her place, and this was my first lesson in the importance of a quality sewing machine. I've been sewing on a hand-me-down machine with pretty unsatisfying results. My bobbins are always lopsided, my tension is uneven, the thread catches in weird places...I thought I just didn't know how to sew! But with Jenny's machine my stitches were even and I could go at my own pace. I loved it!!! Just for fun, we even stitched up one side using her serger. Sergers are magical, I had no idea!!

I love my finished pillow. I love all the colors in the Bold Sampler. And now I love sewing! I am one happy camper.

As part of our ‘Summer of Samplers’ one lucky commenter will win the Bold Sampler featured in this post. Simply leave a comment by 8/3/10, and I will draw the name of one lucky winner using a random number generator. Good luck!!

This is cute and different also! Wow, guess you know that to feel better about your sewing a new or next-to new machine is what you need......... The older machines did what they needed to do "back then", but to be sewing for quilts, pillows, table toppers, etc. you do need a machine that is of really good quality!! Good luck in getting what you wish for!! LOL

Very cute pillow. Any teen would just love this for their room. Like the others said, in school or college colors would be great.

Very cute. It would be a great pillow for a teenager or college dorm room. You could use school colors. Now you've got me thinking about the teenagers in my family - great gift idea!
