Quilt With Us

This is my first blog post and I wanted to share an email that I received from a member of the Road To California's Quilt Show.  It is about the show's events, but it is the personal note that tugged at my heart.

A Personal Note

My sister just celebrated her 67th birthday, however due to a birth injury she is mentally retarded - about 6 - 8 yrs of age.  She lives in a “care home” and basically is happy and really has not a care in the world.  Her greatest joy is to receive mail so I am asking you “roadies” to send her a Christmas card, picture post card, or ???  She carries a RED purse and loves to put her cards in the purse, take them out and look at them and repeat the process several times a day.  By sending a card you will really make Glenda’s day.

Lastly

The Reese Family and Road to California Staff would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Quilting from Carolyn, Matt and The Road to California Staff!

Jan: 19-22 2012 Thurs. - Sat. 9:30-6:00 Sun. 10:00 - 3:30

It just give me goosebumps and I have to make a card for Glenda.  If any of you have an extra card or would like to make one, I am sure that you will make her happy to receive it.   Thanks for reading my first post.

Happy Holidays to All of you

Here is a postcard to Glenda from Robbin Neff, a member of our Aceo Postcard group.

This one is from me Brenda Crisci, a member of our Aceo/Postcard group.

This one is from Gwen Gwinner, a member of our postcard/Aceo group. This one is from me:

Other generous quilters/artists have sent cards, but I was not able to get photos.  They are for Glenda and I don't need to see them  It makes my heart happy from the response.

I still have to make one for Jim.  Thanks to everyone.  Cards can be sent at any time.  They do not have to be hand made.  Just an extra card will bring smiles and give her a reason to go into her red purse.

I am struggling with the slideshow but will figure it out.  Blessings and a Happy Holiday to all.

Thank you, Pam.  I think so, too!  Carolyn, her sister believes that Glenda will like it too.

I have another email from Carolyn, Glenda's sister.  Gwen Gwinner, Moderator of my Aceo-Postcard group is making a new red purse for Glenda to hold her cards.  This is the newest email:

"Diana,

You are such a caring person.  Thanks.
Glenda bday is November 22, 1944.
I produce the show, Road to California, so yes, I will be there.  I did sell the store 5 years ago, I was getting too old to run two businesses and I so enjoy Road.  It is great to see women walking around with smiles on their faces and forgetting their problems at least for one day.
Glenda would probably enjoy a new "red purse".  Your slide show sounds interesting.

Carolyn"

Thanks to all of you for your wonderful response and generosity.

Pam, the card is so cute!!!  The card is adorable and as an adult, I would love it.  Remember that Glenda is 7-8 years old, mentally.  I love it!  Pam, I will save the really card for our slide show.  I am sure that Glenda will love it!

Debbie, thanks so much.  You are right, we all have extra cards.  The way that I read the email, she loves all cards.

Nancy, it is nice to meet you.  That was my first blog, also.  I am pleased that you read my first and responded.  I have also been to the Road show, several times and loved it.  Speaking of the staff, this is the email that I received when I asked who is Glenda's sister.  This is the response from her sister.

"Diana,

Glenda is my sister.  I know that you will make her day by sending her cards.  I made the same request several years ago when I owned The Fabric Patch and she got so many cards that they saved them and gave them to her after Christmas.  They lasted until Easter that year.
I really appreciate all of the quilters who are so kind to do this.

Director, Road to California
She is the Director of the show.  I have been to the beautiful store the Fabric Patch, a few times.  Nancy, are you going to Road, in January?  I am trying to make plans to get there.  I would love to meet Carolyn Reese.  I also have members from my group, Aceo/Postcards, here on QWU making cards.

Wow, my first time in this site, the first blog I've read . . . and now my very first blog ever written . . . AND it has nothing to do with sewing or quilting!  I have been to Road to California and loved it, making a couple of cards is a significant way to say thanks to the staff for three wonderful days and a great way to start my Christmas giving.  Thanks so much.
