Quilt With Us

Hey quilters, occasionally I notice blog posts that include personal opinions and/or judgments about politics/religion/personal living arrangements/etc. I’ve purposely not made any rules in this community, preferring instead to let it unfold naturally, like any gathering of talented people.

However, I’ve heard of other communities where strong personal opinions have gotten rather heated and ugly, and feelings get hurt (can you say Fall 2008 election?). This week I noticed a post about religious beliefs, with some associated judgments that could hurt the feelings of any members of that particular religion.

So I’d like to set the tone right now. I’ve deleted the post in question, so I don’t embarrass anyone that posted on it. Let’s keep the controversial arguments on topics like light vs dark chocolate, and which direction to stitch your binding, please. If you’d really like to have a healthy, loud conversation about a hot topic on politics or religion or any other sensitive issue, you are welcome to do that, but I recommend you do it outside of QWU.

I missed the whole thing BUT I am so very glad that you took care of it in your usual professional manner. This site has opened up a whole new world for me and has given me so many friends. Thanks to you and all of the C.T. staff for creating such a warm and caring site.

Thanks Karen for keeping things on track. And as for me, I prefer light chocolate, but hear dark is better for your health. Nothing better than a good chocolate covered eclaire. LOL. Again, thanks for your immediate action on a delicate situation.

100% behind that statement! Nuf said! This is for fun, not for airing those types of opinions.

I agree.......this is not the format for things like that. My father has a saying that he still thows out at us at age 90....."If you don't have something nice to say.....Don't say anything at all." thanks

Karen,

Thanks for taking care of this community and making it what it is for all of us. As my Mama always said, politics and religion has not place at the dinner table or the quilting frame!!

Thank you, Karen, for a sensitive and well phrased guiding hand. There are some topics not to be touched upon by friends, if they wish to remain friends. We all wish to remain friends--we're having just too much fun to endanger our association!!
