Quilt With Us

A question for the ages...When is enough material "ENOUGH"?

I am looking to hear from lots of u gals & guys. I have more material than I will probably ever use in my lifetime (yeah, I know what quilter can't say this) or I will look @ some of it in a few years & think "dang this is ugly, what was I thinking when I brought this?!?" Now back to my original question...I have found some BEAUTIFUL BATIK fabrics (of which I actually own very little~I think this might be considered rationalizing) for an amazing price! Regularly priced about $10.99 to $11.99 a yard for (wait for it) $7.63 a yard!!! (Can I get an Amen?) At this point I don't want to spend myself into the "poor house", but I am having a really hard time walking (let alone running) away from this deal!! So as a group of individuals that LOVE fabric (personally I have never met a yard of fabric I didn't think I should own!!) & the art of sewing/quilting...when is ENOUGH MATERIAL ENOUGH?? Thanks in advance for your thoughts! Georgia

I just bought the $50 worth of the batiks CT had on sale, which arrived Tues, and believe it or not, I have it all completely cut out and partly stitched for the Buckeye Beauty pattern I have been sitting on for 4 months! I even ignored the 30's Friendship Star Ribbon one I started in the spring to get going on this one. I NEVER have 2 in progress at the same time!!! But I am SO excited!

I agree.  Buy it or you will kick yourself later remembering the good deal you passed up.  I have a lot in my stash that I can't figure out why I bought something so ugly.  I found out if you cut it in little pieces and use for a scrap quilt, it's not so ugly.

have you seen all the CT batiks on sale??? they are lovely especially the leafy ones. you only live once. I will definitely never use all I have yet I keep buying. Safer than drinking or smoking addictions, I reckon. It makes me smile rather than sick.

Buy it..no question. Remember why you bought it and use up before you forget why you bought it. :-)

I say...if you like it and want it...you buy it!  It is a good idea to donate fabric you have 'outgrown' or just don't want any longer.  Or you can make a quilt using a new technique and use it as practice blocks and then give it away to charity too!

Irene is right...you only go this way once.  My kids asked us a couple of years ago if we had set up a trust of anything like that...I said "yes, you can trust that we will spend it before we go!"  They didn't think that was too funny but my husband couldn't stop laughing!

If you don't buy it, you will kick yourself!  Trust me, been there, done that!  And I agree with Kathy, donate the stuff you don't like to Quilts for Kids, who knows, when you ask for a kit, you may get some of your old fabric back to put to good use!  LOLOL

If you can afford it, buy it. Enough is enough when you don't want or like it anymore. If you feel you have too much fabric, donate some to the Quilts for Kids groups, or some other worthy cause.

I have always heard the advice, buy what you like and it sounds like you really like it, so go for it!

I LOVE batik fabric!  You can never have enough of it.  The colors are so fresh and clear.  It's the same on both sides, so it is perfect for applique, especially when you forget to reverse the pattern.  Batik on sale is especially irresistible!  Is this enough rationalization?  Go for it!
