Today, I'm packing my little Janome Gem Platinum and a sizeable amount of other stuff to go with it, including some clothes for slightly cooler weather, and chocolate, to leave Thursday for another quilting retreat. This time it is some 6 hours away, over the coastal mountains, to Crescent City, a small city located on the coast just south of the Oregon state line. Some of you may remember that this is the California city that was inundated by a tsunami from the 1964 Alaska earthquake. It is a charming place, the greatest attraction of which is the daily temperature highs of 60-some degrees, when it is in the 100's here in the central valley!
The retreat really starts at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning, but my roommate and I decided we'd rather have an extra night there than get up at 4:00 a.m. and drive over on Friday. I'm not really fond of driving in the dark anyway. There is a Friendship Block to make (did that!), canned foods to gather up for donation to a local food bank, projects selected to work on during the day, Show-and-Tell items finished from the last retreat in May (um...only got one of those), Mini-classes to gather supplies for, and books and music for the evenings in the hotel room. Oh, and I'll need shoes and a windbreaker to walk on the beach! (Good thing I'm taking the van!) There'll be 35 or so friends I know, and friends I haven't met yet; lots of food, and even a quilt shop vendor who'll be set up just for us.
Looking forward to this, and wish you all could come!
