Quilt With Us

Hi Ladies! I know this is a quilting site and not about food, but I thought maybe the ladies who are creative with needles will be creative in the kitchen too? Lol! ;o)  My question is: do you have any ideas for filling bread?  I have to use french or other long breads, cut them into thick slices (not right through) and put fillings in.  Cold or warm. I have to make this for the "tea" after the World day of Prayer for women at my church. Thank you!

when you said bread filling, I was thinking of stuffed breads, Italian style. Get refrigerated bread dough at the store, roll it out and put a layer of pepperoni and provolone cheese on it, then roll it. Or sausage and broccoli and cheese....there are many combinations. Then bake it, slice it up & serve warm. If its new to your group, it will knock their socks off.

Once upon a time I cut off the crusts, spread with egg salad or ham salad, add another layer of bread , spread with the egg or ham salad, another layer of bread then 'frost' with thinned cream cheese and sprinkle with finely chopped parsley. To serve it, slice it like a cake.  I think the recipe was in The Better Homes & Gardens cookbook.

Spinach dip recipe on the Knorr's veg. soup packet is good, too.

You could use 'canned' meat spread mixed with cream cheese and pickle relish. The spread will stick on the bread so it won't be messy.

Good morning...one of my favorites to make ...doesn't require bread, which with everyone dieting goes over big. Slice of ham...spread cream cheese...place a dill pickle spear on top and roll it. Slice it in bite size chunks. They will be gone instantly!

Lanie,,, I would think you would scoop out bread from the middle of the loaf, leaving enough along the sides to hold it together when it is sliced all the way through.   The  bread you remove could be used for bread crumbs or croutons.
