That would be fun for the boys, Pam.

I was sitting outside last night and guess what I saw!!!! Lightening bugs! We have the boys this weekend, so we'll see if we can catch some!

I'm not sure I've ever seen lightning bugs!  As Peggy said, we don't have them here on the west coast.

Due to summer dryness, personal fireworks are not encouraged where I live in NorCal.  I wish they were banned all together!  Late rains this year have produced very high, very dry grasses.  It would be very STUPID to take fireworks into that environment.  The community display was set off at 9:30 p.m. and ended at about 10:45, at the City River Park.  It is only about two blocks upriver from our house, so we get the full effect of the loud booms over the water.  I held my newly-blind elderly kitty, Mitzie, on the couch in my lap the whole time while DH went out to see them.  She was very confused at all the noise.

I miss lightning bugs. I guess they don't live at this altitude but I grew up chasing them, putting them in a jar and releasing them. We have community fireworks and some neighbors shoot them off as well. The dogs DO NOT like them. Poor Grace just shakes and prays they will stop soon.

I'm agreeing with the others- a few less fireworks in my neighborhood would make me happier.

The neighbor's poor German Shepherd was up on their deck trying to crawl though the slightly open window.  My large lab/Newfie spent some time on my lap when it was the worst and hasn't been more than 3 feet from me since the fireworks stands opened on July 1.

I'll take the lightning bugs any day! At least they're not noisy. It sounded like a war zone here the last 2 nights.

I saw a few lightning bugs in our back yard last night and also thought I loved that display more than what I new was coming.  Sure enough the neighbor hood started booming a few moments later, and kept it up until well after midnight.

Sounds so peaceful!  Takes me back a few years, for sure.  My age is showing - I couldn't wait for the noise to let up last night.  It seems the neighbors go into town for the bigger fireworks, then come back to still light off their own about the time we're trying to sleep.

I miss seeing them! Would have loved the boys to run and catch them! We had a beautiful display of fireworks over the lake but you can't compete against Mother Nature.
