Quilt With Us

Well we are back and very tired but had so much fun. Hobart is an amazing little city. Such friendly people throughout and so helpful. It is a city full of Australian History being settled in 1804 approximately. I read letters from Captain John Hanchett (part of the English blockade of Craney Point, Virginia in 1812) to his son John Justinian who was a surgeon on the Henry - a ship bringing convicts and settlers from England to Tasmania in the early 1800s. What a caring  father - the 5 letters ranged from 1824 to 1856 and gave an insight to this family's (well my husband's) early forebears.

Photos to come. Thank you for the birthday wishes for my 60th on 26 April.

Celebrating birthdays when traveling is wonderful. I was in AZ on mine and we had nice warm weather and wore short and short sleeves. Then back to the cold weather in the NW. Your trip sounds fascinating and to have found the information on your husband's side of the family is awesome.

Glad to hear you had such a great time in Tasmania, I agree that the history is so interesting and the people are just great!  We just got back from 7 weeks down under the end of March, we spent a couple of weeks with our friend in Launceston and then the 4 of us flew to the mainland.  By the time we arrived home we had 16 plane flights, 3 road trips with car rentals and 1 week on a catamaran at Whitsundays....unbelievable time!!!!  We can't wait to come back in 2013 - there is still so much we want to see.  We came home with over 3,000 pictures - hope to get some posted on my page soon.

What a wonder to be able read the actual letters of that time frame, that are part of your DH's and your history.  Waiting for the pics  ! !

Glad you enjoyed your time away .

Thanks for sharing.

Sandy, your trip sounds delightful.  I love all kinds of history.  It is especially nice when you are related to some of the people you are learning about!  Happy belated birthday.

Sandy I am sure even if it was fun you are glad to be home.  I think it is wonderful when we get to have a vacation and a history lesson in one.

I am glad your birthday was a good one.
