Quilt With Us

I went to my pattern drawer to see what my pattern is called - it'snot the same as yours, Edith. I guess I sound like the quilt police but I'm really not - I just know how much work it is to design a quilt so I hate to see things like this happen. Most of the time it's innocent ignorance on the part of the offender. I did not write the laws, but I sure follow them!!

Unfortunately, Rebecca, I would not know where to buy another pattern as the shop I got it at is not selling it any more and the lady who "designed" it said she would not be putting any more out there. Maybe the one that Edith has is the REAL original pattern?

I'm going to put this topic to bed & go on to another.

Thank you for your supportive comments. Edith, that is not the same lady as on my pattern, so perhaps whoever it was that was interested in the pattern could Google that name to see if she is still selling it.

Not at all Mary, I also don't feel comfortable when I know a pattern has been plagerized. Especially if a quilter makes money by selling her quilts. I don't, but know people who do. My pattern was put out by a lady named Evelyn L. McCarty from Union Mo. I was struck by the fact the block is exactly the same just a different layout.

Copyright laws and quilters have always been a struggle. I am glad to hear you speak out on this issue. As quilters we need to remember that many times today patterns are a source of income for the designer, and we would be very upset it someone stole income from us. We also need to give credit to the original designer when we show our quilts. And if you are selling a quilt made or adapted from a design my someone else, it needs to be acknowledged and/or given permission from the designer.
And yes, designing a quilt and writing directions to make it is a lot of hard work!
