Quilt With Us

Out of all the pictures I've posted, #10 & 11 have gotten the most comments - the story behind this quilt is I saw a sample hanging in a quilt shop & asked to buy the pattern. The shop had sold out of the patterns & ordered more. I bought one when they came in and it was then that I realized this was really just a hashed together pattern. I called the "designer" & found out she was not really the designer. She was a woman who saw the quilt (an original design) at a quilt show, took pictures and put together a basic pattern and claimed it as her own. This of course, is illegal. The pattern I bough is really just super bad photocopies of a stencil for the flowers & a few pages of directions. I tried to gently explain a little about copyright law, but I don't think I got through to her. So what I've decided is to not promote this as it's not a legal pattern and only to make more as gifts & not for sale or to put in a show. I'm sorry to say that the shop no longer sells the pattern because of the copyright issue and I don't know of any other shop that carries it.

I loved the quilt too, I want to make at least one. Whatever I make will be to keep for myself or as a gift. Thanks for the details. You were very thorough. PTL

such a shame about the story behind it... it really is a nice looking quilt; one I wouldn't have minded trying myself. I think it's a good thing that the shop no longer sells the pattern... maybe the woman who's selling them will get the 'hint' that what she's doing is illegal.

Having looked at your quilt (cheerful and fun I might add) made me realize that I am working on almost an identical pattern called Shadowed Daisy, so I took a closer look at the pattern and found the same thing. I didn't think much at the time. When you buy patterns from booths at small quilt shows, sometimes it is people just starting out in the design business and can't afford professional printing of their patterns. But having seen yours and the block is identical to the one I am working on; I don't make things to sell, but do occaisionally donate for raffles, I guess I will think twice from now on. Thanks Mary.
