I was slightly intimidated by the pattern, so I enlisted the help of my friend Jenny. Together we cut 12 little flags and pressed each one. The pattern had 15 flags, but I was using a smaller pillow from Ikea as a pillow form, so I could only fit 12. I pinned everything in place, and then we started sewing it up. We were sewing at her place, and this was my first lesson in the importance of a quality sewing machine. I've been sewing on a hand-me-down machine with pretty unsatisfying results. My bobbins are always lopsided, my tension is uneven, the thread catches in weird places...I thought I just didn't know how to sew! But with Jenny's machine my stitches were even and I could go at my own pace. I loved it!!! Just for fun, we even stitched up one side using her serger. Sergers are magical, I had no idea!!
I love my finished pillow. I love all the colors in the Bold Sampler. And now I love sewing! I am one happy camper.
