Quilt With Us

Hi Everyone. I have been working in my bedroom all day. I started ripping the paper off the other day but didn't get much done when company came in. So today I went back at it. I decided to move the furniture from each wall at a time. Rip the paper off, tear up the rug in that area and then paint. Put the furniture back and move to the next wall. Nothing is ever as simple as you might think.  Many years ago I had to have a closet built in my room. The house is over a hundred years old. I guess they only had one outfit that they hung on the back of a door as there were no closets upstairs. Well anyway the carpenter built the closet on top of the rug. When I pulled up the rug it looked like the mop board around the closet had a mustache. Being a woman I thought I'll use my cutting board and rotary cutter and zip that right off. Well it didn't work. (another duh moment) So then I got one of those craft knives that you can snap off the dull blade and push out another one. That worked fine for the foam padding but the rug wouldn't budge. Another brain storm hits. I went and got  the clippers that I use to cut dh's hair. Low and behold I was getting the rug cut. Dh shows up and I tuck them under the bed. I won't tell him until I go to cut his hair. If they are dull then I will have to tell him. hee hee.  One time I went out and bought a pair of clippers and sat him down to cut his hair and he hollered and jumped so high his clothes were out of style before he landed. They were so dull they pulled his hair out instead of cutting it. He took them back to WM and said no wonder them things were dull, you only paid $9.99 for them. lol He got a good set and I'm using them to cut a rug.  So I worked all day and didn't get much accomlished but as soon as I get by that closet it should be clear sailing.

That's hilarious!  I don't do haircuts, but I admire those who do.

Irene, that is just too funny....if the clippers work... sometimes we have to be really creative! I can understand why you would hide them.  I would have to hide DH clippers too if I was cutting carpet with them...LOL  I think back in the last century the houses didn't have closets because they used chifferobes.  My ex husbands grandparents house did have one closet but they used chifferobes to put their clothes in.

I thought I was the only one that gets myself in that situation.  I know you will be glad to get this behind you and maybe someday you can look back and chuckle.  I know I always do.  I redid a bathroom a couple of years ago, stripped the wall paper, patched walls, sanded and sanded.  I got it painted and the last step was to put up the towel bar. Of course I wanted to move it over a bit from where it originally was and of course that point was right over the air conditioning pipe.  Yes, you guessed it I put a hole in the pipe and all the freon came out.  It took like a half hour to all come out, of course I called DH because I feared I hit a gas line, but he assured me it was freon.  Good thing I am married to a patient and understanding man, who knows how to repair my mistakes.  LOL

Good for you Irene!  I painted my dining room & kitchen a few years ago and THAT was a job!  Got it done in time for DD's 18th Birthday.  I've got an old house too, just 2 closets, very small!  Would love to see pix!

Oh Irene, that's funny.  My husband, being a barber, would not approve!!!  Good luck with the rest of the room!

New clippers may be worth the price of the new room. Old wall paper can be a "bear"!

I was going to suggest "Nair".  Funny, Irene!  Hope the rest of your project goes more smoothly!
