Quilt With Us

Early this morning I went to have the injection done to cervical area of my spine. I am NOT impressed with the doctor who did it. For one, he just saw me last week and told ME that I would be given sedation for the procedure AND I told HIM I had a problem with certain forms of iodine. When I saw him this morning, NONE of that information was on the chart that the "nurse" anesthetist was going over. They had to FIND a special antibacterial to use. The doc comes in an looks at the chart and says "so we're doing this WITHOUT sedation, right!" WRONG. I told him if its without sedation, then I was out of there.

WHen told about the iodine problem he went off about how come no one TOLD him, I had, he doesn't listen. When told that a nurse was going to a special surgical unit to get the antibacterial that was needed, he responded that they were wasting time and stormed out of the room. When I came to in recovery I was there about 5 minutes awake when a young man came to get me into a chair. He plops my "discharge instructions" on the arm and says "here" and then presented me with peanut butter crackers and a bagged juice. I barely munched on that when he says lets get up and see if you can walk. I took two steps and he says you're fine and I was to get dressed. They get a wheelchair and roll me out of the room right past DH whom I had to say hey, go get the car. NO ONE went over the instructions!

When we got home, I had DH look at the back of my neck to see if there was a bandage and he said nope, but lots of blood down not only the back of my neck but the front! It had not been cleaned off.

They're suppose to call me in 72 hours to see how I'm doing and if the injection helped. I will definitely give them an ear full and any other injections/tests will be done by someone else. I slept the entire day and hurt like crazy. Have just gotten the headache down to a dull roar. Will definitely let my back doctor know I'm not thrilled with his choice for injection doc. Where the back doc gave strong vibes of self-confidence, listened and was attentive, the injection doc was not. He put me off from the first meeting and I just put it off to being anxious.

Need to crawl back in bed and see if I can get rid of the headache AND the pain. Hopefully, all will be better come daylight!

Hanging in there Carol, hanging in there. The doc's office was suppose to call me within 72 hours to follow up on HOW I was doing. As of today, I have heard absolutely NOTHING! You can bet when I go in for the follow up appointment, he is going to get an earful AND I will also be telling the doc who referred me to him for the injections that he might want to rethink doing that.

How awful; hope you are better.

I called the back specialist to see if I have a follow up with him and to check to make sure that the doc who did the injections would not be the one doing the disco gram. Found out that I have a follow up with the doc who did the injections and I would not have know about it but for my call to the back specialist! Believe me, when I go to see him he will definitely get an ear full and I have gone on record with the specialist about his treatment of me.

I will be having the disco gram done on December 2nd and then will be scheduled for spinal surgery shortly after that. Should be interesting. By that time I should have the house in order and will be able to do some sewing, if not at the machine then by hand.

I appreciate all the comments that have been given and will be taking care of it when I see the doc for the follow up. Did not want to say anything right before the procedure as that probably would not have been the smartest thing to do.

Please, do file a complaint!  Save someone else the pain of this type of ordeal.  Hope you're feeling better by the time you read all of these posts!

Yes, complain. So sorry you had to go through this. Needing the injection was bad enough without having to deal with that doctor.

It is so disappointing when these things happen.  Hope you are feeling better soon, regardless of the poor treatment.

I agree with Pam and Ally. A complaint needs to be filed and hopefully something will be done so that dr. won't be able to do this to someone else. I make sure that the Anesthetist knows that because I'm only 104 lbs, that if I get a full dose, I won't wake up for a day. The nurses have been good to make sure that is on my charts. I do hope that you are now feeling better. What an awful experience.

Terri not a nice experience. If it was me I would write a complaint so that the situation is dealt with, at least it might help anyone esle dealing with him. After all you went through let us hope that it has helped you.

There's terrible doctors everywhere...they have superiors also. File a complaint with the practice, he needs to have this behavior monitored before he injures someone for good. We had a doctor at the hospital, that was sent twice to anger management, then he was sent packing...
