No not the CT fabric (although I hope to get some of that soon) but the start of my tomato canning for this year. I was lucky that it was cloudy and rainy today and therefore DC (dear cannine) didn't pester me too much for walks. I did take her for a couple of short ones but most of the time she just curled up for a nap. Lookout tonight then when she'll be ready to go!

I was hoping to get 7 quarts, but only found enough ripe for 6 but I'll have plenty more soon. Last year our whole area lost all the tomatoes to a late blight which swept through in just one day. I've never seen anything like it but I had very few of my own tomatoes to can and couldn't even find any to buy. So this is the first year in about 30 that we actually ran out of canned tomatoes before it was time to process this years.

Tomorrow I'm going to pull out the last two summer squash plants - I'm done trying to keep up with them..

Yes the rings are plastic and I love them because they don't rust. I've had them for so many years I don't remember what brand they were. They are universal and I use them on my Ball jars with Ball lids but they came with some other type which I'm sure is no longer made. I also have tons of the tin bands which I never use any more since most of them are rusty.

Linda, your lids look plastic, are they, if so where did you get them and are they universal to all canning jars

I was hoping to do some pickles and relish this year but my cucumbers got a disease and I pulled them out long ago - I just had a few to eat. Maybe next year. Maybe I can make some green tomato relish from my huge crop - I've never tried that but I used to give all my late green tomatoes to a woman I worked with who loved to make them into relish.

Okay now that is a new one on me. I guess you will have to distinguish it more --DCD or DCC__dear canine dog or dear cuddly cat. teehee
Oh by the way I love the look of those tomatoes. My Mom used to can tomatoes all the time but I never have. I have put up apple butter and made pear butter.

Yum!!!!! DC eh? I haven't heard that one - LOL!

I have 6 vines packed full of green tomatoes - we've had so little sun that I don't know if they'll ripen before Christmas at this rate! I keep hoping though...........
