Quilt With Us

I finished another wallhanging this afternoon.  I appliqued the center block 20 yrs ago this month.  Then I finally added the borders last year and then quilted it this week.  Better late than never!

I love it! Sometimes the long delayed pieces are the best. I think of them ripening like fruit--when it's time it will happen.

Thanks everyone.  Irene, you got a fabulous deal on that fabric.

Janet, I never gave it a thought to make a scrappy backing for that quilt. Thanks for the tip.  When I went to the store to buy more fabric I got the 108 in wide fabric. Now I don't have to piece it together.  This store where I buy all my fabric has a great selection and the prices are great. I paid $7.99 a yard for the 108" and the regular width at the most is $4.99 a yard. It's all quilt shop grade as this is a salvage store that buy's out quilt shops and other stores who go out of business.

It feels really good to see these old UFOs become real quilts.  This one just makes me smile when I look at it.  I do know one thing that has helped is having a Pfaff with 11-1/2" to the right of the needle.  Makes it so much easier to machine quilt!  The hardest part for me now is the basting, which is why I will still have to have my large quilts quilted by a longarm quilter.

Irene, bummer about having to go out in the rain to buy more fabric.  Have you ever used a scrappy backing?  I have started doing that with fabric that still compliments the top (i.e. fall fabrics on a fall type quilt) and it is a great way to use up those odd sizes of left over fabrics.

Very pretty. I agree with PQ you are making good progress on those UFO's. I had a bright idea to put an extra border on Gavin's quilt but didn't think about my backing fabric being too short. I'm off to the store in a pouring rain to get another backing fabric. Oh well, I can use what I already have on another quilt.

And still timeless.  Your commitment to finish those UFOs is admirable.  It must feel SO, SO good!
