Quilt With Us

I've been getting a lot of my SBS blocks made while I'm on home confinement. No, I'm not wearing an electronic monitoring device but an IV stand is my companion for about three hours twice a day. I've got an infection and rather than leaving me in the hospital they sent me home to get antibiotics by IV. Fortunately I already had a port installed so it's not as big a deal as it could have been.

Since I'm on home IV therapy I'm not allowed to leave the house except for doctor's appointments. I interpret this somewhat liberally but my husband doesn't. If I was contagious I wouldn't want to go out for fear of infecting someone else, but I'm not. If I felt any ill effects from the infection I wouldn't want to go out but I don't.

If I didn't have quilting, I think I would be stir crazy by now. I have a little bit of cabin fever but I know it would be much worse if I couldn't lose myself at the sewing machine and here online. I've been working on my Sylvia's Bridal Sampler blocks and I am dangerously close to not being a slacker. I'm sure I'll make up for it at some point.

Thanks for all the entertaining posts and the opportunity to chat about my favorite subject!

Happy Quilting!

Lynda, I hope you are well on the road to recovery...I too am stuck at home, hubby broke his truck. It is funny how if my car sits in the driveway for a week at a time, I feel free. But one day hubby takes it and I am in JAIL. lol IV antibiotics once saved my life....4 different IVs at a time!

Thank you all for the kind words and well wishes! Quilters are the nicest people and show that over and over again.

It is true that when I don't have to be home I usually want to be home. I also work at home (website design) and so many times I'm tempted to leave my computer coding and go down the hall to my sewing room. I'm appreciating my time at the machine.

Cat Lady - this one doesn't have Y seams, just one partial seam, which went fine. I'm going to find another of the SBS blocks that does have Y seams so I can try them when all the helpful suggestions are fresh in my mind. I think I was mostly stuck because I'd seen and read that you should be able to just pivot when you get to the center of the Y seam. Sewing it as two separate seams is much easier.

Thanks again everyone!

Lynda, I feel for you being cooped up in the house like this. It's true that what would be a treat if it were be choice can become a hardship when it's a have-to. But it looks like you are making lemonade out of your lemons, something too few people are able to do. I hope your infection is quickly knocked out and that the days pass happily. You are making a beautiful quilt--can't wait to see the finished product!

Cheryl couldn't have said it better. I love the colors in your Star of the Orient. Can you take your friendly pole to a deck or porch and at least enjoy the fresh air?

Lynda, I also hate to be confined! The funny thing is, I can be home for weeks at a time, happily sewing in my "hidey hole" as my husband likes to call my sewing room, and never want to go anywhere. But the minute he takes my car for the day, or I'm told for some odd reason I CAN'T go somewhere, I feel suddenly trapped! I hope you are recovering well and you will soon be "let out" :) Your blocks are absolutely beautiful, I love the color combinations you have chosen. Feel better soon!

Beautiful block Lynda. At least your IV pole and tubing are not interfering with sewing.
Remember, it is probably not what you can give the public that has you confined, but rather what the public could expose you to while you are on the antibiotics. In other words, you do not need to get another infection on top of the one you already have.
Look forward to seeing more of your blocks. How did the Y seam go on this one?

Just stunning. I love this block!

Nice to hear you're making the best of a not-so-good sitiuation. It's one thing to WANT to stay home and quilt all the time, and another thing to HAVE to stay housebound. :0) Hang in there and keep those beautiful blocks coming! PQ
