Quilt With Us

It has been awhile since I have posted.  Stop to read updates everyday and love hearing from everyone.  It has been very hot here in MI and we need rain badly.  I have been doing a fair amount of sewing and completed several quilts for my charity group.

My complaint is about my machine.  It is a Viking Saphire 875 and I have had problems with it ever since I purchased it 5 yrs ago.  When I take it in they tell me I use it far too much and that it is always full of lint and that makes it not function properly.  Since I have had a warrenty I have been taking it in every 3 months this year before it expires.  The Tech claims it is my thread and it is not a good quality.  I use CT thread and have not had any complaints about it.  I also use it in my Mega Quilter.  I do find that occassionaly it shreads in my quilter but often it is the needle needing replaced.  So in the end they say to change thread and it is my fault the machine does not work properly.

I am going  to try other thread for the next couple of months and take it in again, but I bet I will get the same run around.

Has anyone else been finding the tread "Linty" and causing problems?

Not to be rude, it is not the thread, sounds like a "tech" problem to me.  Been using CT thread for years, on ALL of my machines and in my bobbin, not a problem, other than cleaning out the bobbin casing on a regular basis, like when I change my needle after each project.  I use a small cleaning brush, and it works wonderfully!  Shame on the tech for saying it is the thread causing the problem!

I am so glad to hear it from everyone.  I do not believe it is the tread either as I do clean my bobbin regularly.  My warranty is for 5yrs from the dealer and so I have not had to pay labor, etc.  They replaced some parts in Feb. to get my decorative stitches to work right, but every time it gets dirty they start acting up again.  The tech has been doing an adjustment every time it goes in.

My husband has decided that when the warranty is up, we will just vacuum it and then use the compressor on it. We know that it voids the long term warranty but as they don't know how to fix it, what is the difference.  We are also going to figure out how to open it to get at the "dirty" parts.  I do plan on contacting the distributor as well.  If it quits working I will never buy another machine from this dealer.

I have been told all kinds of excuses.  At first it was the needle, then the lint, then the user, etc.  It also skips stitches in the FMQ when using the darning foot and they told me it will only work right with the spring foot.  We pay so much for these machines my husband wants to sue them.

I do plan on continued use of CT tread as I love the colors and have one of every color there is. It is so nice to have a complete selection of color as other thread is so pricey.

I've read the other comments and strongly agree with cleaning the bobbin area often.  I bought one of those little vacuum attachment kits and have been using it for years on all of my machines.  Also, I've seen some thread racks that look so pretty with all of the colors showing, but I like to keep my thread under cover, so to speak.

if it is still under warranty, send it back,,,let them fix it untill you are satisfied.

I use CT thread in my machines and have had no problems. I also clean the bobbin casing regularly because any thread will leave some lint. If you are sewing flannel fabrics you will get a lot of lint and would recommend cleaning after each project.

Clean the bobbin case and area after every bobbin change. Cotton thread makes more lint than poly. Thread left out that collects dust, makes lots of lint and the dust mess. I use my old thread for string quilts to clean it up. I have some that was 30 years old that I just used up. I took my 170 Bernina        ( when new), back in the first month because it was getting hot. They said I was also using the wrong thread, since I did not purchased more from them and it had lint. Funny it was the same as any bobbin change. After another trip the next month they switch machines for me. The 170 had a motor problem.  I am glad I have my husband and now I also take my machine apart and clean the lint inside with the vacuum computer attachment.

I don't have that machine, but a fairly expensive dealer bought machine.  My repair person also tried to blame me, cheap thread, ect for all my problems.  In desperation, I boxed it up and sent it to the main dealer for US. Their repairman called me within days of it leaving my house, replace a bobbin case runner , and it has been perfect since.  The local repairman still does my yearly tuneup and has never mentioned the updated bobbin case.

Using it too much?  Nonsense!  He/she is trying to cover for their ineptitude.

That said, when I hauled it to California for my son's wedding and at the last minute decided I needed to hem napkins and the only thread I could get was old C and C, it made very uneven stitches. I do like the connecting threads thread.

Go on line, find out who the US distributor is and call them.  Even if you don't send your machine to them, you may get some valuable advice.

I use only CT thread in my 3 sewing machines as well as my mid-arm quilting machine. Never have I had a problem with the thread. I do regular cleaning of the bobbin casing, etc. and no problems have occurred. I would also agree with the others and suggest that you try a different service dept. if possible. Good luck to you.

I have had a Husqvarna/Viking Designer 1 for 11 years.  I clean it out regularly and have never had a problem with the machine or any kind of thread I have used including CT. HOWEVER, my bobbin winder broke and I took it to the Viking Gallery where I shop and they sent it out to our New service tech.  It came back with the tensions all screwed up. The bobbin thread was showing up through the top thread and you could pull the bobbin thread out with no effort. I took it back to the Viking Gallery 4 times. (100 mi. one way). The lady at the gallery tried to convince me it was suppose to be that way.  I took it upon myself and packed it up and sent it down to N.H. to Augers and son's. (highly recommended) They got the the tensions fixed and shipped it back. It's working perfect again. I love my Viking machines but their service techs. don't impress me.

I use only CT thread and never have a problem as long as I clean my machine after every project.  The general rule of thumb is to clean your machine after every three bobbins.  I do this faithfully and never have a problem.  I do get lint but don't give it a chance to build up. I have a Baby Lock, a Brother, a Featherweight and a Janome....all the same.  Regular maintenance at home really saves your machine.  If you do that then it is the machine.
