Quilt With Us

Don't you just love Raggedy Ann and Andy...what was your favorite doll?

Every era has their special dolls...the 60's had Barbie and still do...Betsy Wetsy and Chatty Cathy and Cabbage Patch dolls. There is nothing in my book like the Raggedy Anns and all her adventure stories. I had a dear friend who made them when she was in her 80s. Hand stitched every thread of hair, etc. I bought many as baby gifts and a set for my self 30 yrs. ago. Last year I purchased Raggedy Ann blocks that were made in the 30's. Still have enough left for a quilt. Had three blocks that had rips, but could be repaired. Made a dolly quilt for my doll. We only have grandsons, so I will wrap these in tissue paper and put them in the cedar chest, hoping in 20 yrs. a great granddaughter will join our family! I plan ahead...lol.

Once made 36" set of R. Ann and Andy, and have a pic of my son wearing Andy's clothes, sitting with R. Ann on the couch.

I do love Raggedy Ann, and Andy too. I've made several Raggedy Ann's (and some Andys) as baby gifts, every girl needs a good friend! My favorite is a 15" Raggedy Ann, perfect size for a baby. When I was a kid I wanted a Chatty Cathy doll for Christmas. Late Christmas Eve I heard my father playing with Chatty Cathy thru the floor register! I also had Chatty Cathy's baby brother. Another favorite of mine was my Ginny doll. I still have a Tiny Tears doll (and a dress that my grandmother made for her) from my older cousin, but unfortunately her body material is disintegrating. And, somewhere I have the pattern for Raggedy Ann and Andy's camel. The quilt looks great!

I guess my favorite doll was one with "real" hair (wonder what it was really made of).  My sis and I also played with baby dolls that we fed water to and they wet their diapers; they were made of kind of a pliable rubber.  My favorite doll was my Teddy Bear; the tail squeaked when squeezed.  I don't remember the maker of any of these.  I never made Raggedies but my Mom did; I still have Annie and Andy that she made for my DD.  Will have to make sure she gets them.

Sharon, what a wonderful keepsake to have. To have the original box is special. I was surprised to hear they had a talking doll in '52, didn't realize they used that technology in toys. Teddy bears will always be the number one toy!

I wasn't a dolly girl and loved to play outdoors with my brother. Christmas in '52, I was 8 yrs old and I got a talking doll, which is the size of a real baby. She was dressed in pink & Black taffeta dress, has black shoes, pink socks and a pink bonnet. Since I didn't play with her very  much, she is still in very good condition, except she doesn't talk anymore. She has a pressed wood head, eyes that open and close and a painted face. Her body is cloth and her arms and legs are rubber, which has turned dark over the years. I have her original box and she is wrapped in tissue paper in it. Such a wonderful thing to take out and look at. I also have a Panda bear that my dad gave me when I was ten. Thanks for the memories of your dolls, Pam, and sure love your quilt.  Loved all the comments.

LOVE Raggedy Ann and Andy too!  Your raggedy quilt is beautiful. I find it a challenge to find light blue and red prints suitable  - you've done a nice job!   I'll have to make one for me if I will get around to purchasing redwork raggedy blocks I see on eBay.

BTW - if anyone wants to buy a Raggedy Ann or Andy, individually or in a set, I make them and their clothing!  Message me if interested.

One of my favorite parts of an Annie story:  "So the other dolls were happy too.  For happiness is very easy to catch when we love one another and are sweet all through."

I have made a few Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, one Halloween I made Raggrdy Ann and Andy costumes for my kids and My DH and me!  lol I guess I wasn't grown up yet. The surprising thing was he wore his too. I love your quilt Pam, you have saved another treasure.

I have made lots of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. So I guess I really love the one, Raggedy Ann made for me as a child, but really love one special doll, rubber doll, (which I still have) I named Carolyn. She got lots of clothes made by me. My mom always cut the fabric and I got to sew them. I made Barbe clothes to sell in the 1971, I was Adult then. When  they came out in 1961 my mom said I was too old to play with dolls. My younger brothers each got teen dolls. They were easier to dress.
