Quilt With Us

Oh no! I wasn't even going to think about that baaad word and yesterday I woke up thinking I had to throw all sugar and white flour out of my home...that's a sign that I'm thinking I must cut back and try and get more of my veggies and fruits in now...the holidays are always such fun and I enjoy so many things, including the foods...LOL! It's crazy how much I look forward to Christmas and plan and make things for months and then bam! It's here, and then it gone! And the cycle repeats itsself for another year...I guess there's something comforting in the patterns of life, huh?

"DIET" is one of those 4-letter words that doesn't cross my lips very often. I like to think of it as being on a healthy journey. The word 'diet' means I will be restricted to eat only healthy foods...where if I learn to eat in moderation, I can eat anything.

I love all of your comments ladies! This is day #2 of being good...I've eaten tons of raw veggies today and less sugar and feel great! I love your story Karin! It inspires me to do better! A support group sounds awesome!

Ok I am confessing here........I am the one each year sitting here watching shows like Biggest Loser crying over their accomplishments all the while dunking cookies in my milk! So then I go get a HUGE puppy to walk with me and protect me, still sitting. So then I think Grandkids surely they will get me up and out, Ok it was a good thought. So now I read this and think maybe I really should get more involved with getting healthier, so thanks for the reminder, December 28, 2010 will be here before we know it.

Well, Karin, I need all the support I can get. Even if I can get down 1 pound at a time and keep it off will help. I have had health issues the last couple of years and i need to loooooose. Kit

I guess we should all take better care of ourselves so we will be here longer and you guessed it....quilt more!!! It is a mind game...I started last Thanksgiving and instead of calling it a diet, I just changed the way I eat...yes, more fruits and veggies, no eating at night and on occasion, when it's a special day, you can eat a piece of whatever and not feel guilty...and it worked! I have lost 71 pounds so far and feel great! My inspiration is watching the biggest loser...I don't want to gain so much weight that it starts causing medical problems...I wish all of you the best in the New Year and lets all learn to take care of ourselves...we can have a biggest loser on Quilt With Us...each month on the honor system, we can all tell how good or bad we did the month before...any takers????

Like everyone esle I over indulged over the Christmas season, so I will be looking for ways to get those extra poumds off. Like park my car further away from the grocery store doors so I have to walk, instead of taking the elevator do the stairs as long as it isn't too many flights of stairs and of course walk the dog (poor thing) she doesn't want to go too far this weather. Like BJ. says isn't it a pity we can't work pounds off of doing our quilting!!LOL.

Janet's right about the lack of flavor in the supermarket's produce. We have a farmer's mkt. here & I'm going to check it out. I'm told that the parking there & the street it's on are both hard to navigate, and my son doesn't appreciate a lot of veggies w/ dinner, but somethings are worth the extra effort. I plan to sew & quilt more just to keep me away from the snacks. Wish me luck & patience in 2010. BTW.....I love the number 2010, maybe that's a good omen!

Oh yes, my husband gave me a list of the only foods he will be eating. I didn't gain any weight over the holidays, but I'm going to try and get back to the walking on the tread mill. That is usually what works for me. Yesterday I sewed all day! Yeah for me. However, I kept pieces on my cutting table so I'd have to get up more often and get a few "steps" in.
