Quilt With Us

Right now my sewing machine lives in my cube at work.
I don’t have a place at home where I can sew anymore. I voluntarily gave up my sewing room so my husband would have "a study". He’s a teacher working on his National Board Certification and really needed a place to call his own.
Fortunately for me we have “craft nights” here where we can stay after work and enjoy the camaraderie of others while attempting to actually accomplish something on our projects—whether they’re quilting, knitting or whatever. We do a lot of laughing and even a bit of learning—so in many ways it’s nicer than sewing all by myself at home.
In the grand scheme of things, I will, eventually, get a larger room but that is probably a year or so into the future. So, in the meantime, I browse the Ikea catalog and dream of how I’ll organize my room when the time comes.

Nuala, I have boxes and boxes of fabric packed up & stored in Grandma's garage...which means I can't get to any of it so if I want to do a new project I have to go buy more fabric! And it seems there is ALWAYS a new project-- I bought 2 more kits that arrived in the mail today: Hopping Hares and Charm Sampler. It really is an addiction! But a fun one!

What a lovely thing to do for your hubby. You know not having a space means you can't store a lot of fabric which means you can shop for fabric for each project. If you have the space you fill it with fabric and then you have to shop in your own space and not in the store with all the wonderful new patterns. Do I make sense or do I sound drunk LOL. (never touch a drop. A teaspoonful would set me giggling and sewing crooked.)

I have a sewing room in my basement .. when we put it there i only had one sewing machine and the room was big enough . since then i have 2 more sewing machines and a serger, cutting table, ironing board, book cases, plastic drawers, and sewing tables so now i am very cramped.. not much for more than one person to sew ..got to figure out what i need and what i can do without

Wow, you are one very sweet lady to your hubby. Of course the fact that you can do a craft night at least weekly, that does help........ It will be worth it I am sure in more than one way! Get lots of good ideas and put them down on paper so you will be ready to go when the time comes for your own larger sewing room!!
Good Luck,
Carol

good for you. my sewing room is in my dinning room with 3 stacks of totes and my sewing mcahine under the table, which also serves as my light box. a piece of plexiglass placed over the opening for the leaves and a small lamp for light. it's amazing what you do to sew. jo
